The goal of this event is to bring leaders in beekeeping together from across the globe.
Beekeeping in ancient Egypt dates back to at least 2400 BCE, as evidenced by hieroglyphics depicting beekeeping activities. The Egyptians kept bees primarily for their honey and wax, which were used for food, medicine, and cosmetics.
Beehives were made from clay or woven reeds and placed in rows along the Nile River. The bees were attracted to the flowers that grew along the riverbanks and produced an abundance of honey.
The ancient Egyptians believed that bees were sacred creatures and associated them with the god Ra. They also believed that bees were created from the tears of Ra, which fell to earth and became bees.
Beekeeping was an important industry in ancient Egypt, and beekeepers were highly respected members of society. They often wore protective clothing made from animal skins to protect themselves from bee stings.
The Egyptians also developed techniques for harvesting honey without harming the bees. They would smoke the hives with burning herbs or straw to calm the bees before removing the honeycombs.
Overall, beekeeping played a significant role in ancient Egyptian culture and economy, providing a valuable source of food, medicine, and trade goods.
