This is regulated by the Private Security Industry Act 2001 as amended. There are various different licences security operatives can have, these include:
Manned guarding (usually blue tab)
CCTV Operators (usually burgundy tab)
Close Protection (usually orange tab) - usually for artists or VIPs
Door Supervisors - for licenced areas during licences operating times
CVIT (unusually purple tab) - cash collection and transfer services
Main purpose
Secure property and premises
Protection - e.g. from invading stages
Prevent access to non-public areas
Prevent crime and disorder
Promote public safety
Protect children from harm
Specific site licence objectives
As a purpose and responsibility of Event Security is public safety - they may be useful at the scene of incident to help or protect us. Security operatives may be located at Medical Centres to deal with abusive patients, or stop relatives and friends etc
Main purpose
Manage crowd dynamics
Monitor crowds
Eyes and ears on the ground to the event control room
Pre event safety checks - checking areas for damage etc
Assist the audience - give information and know layout of site
Staff entrances, exits and other strategic points - not required to have a Security operative
Control people leaving from an event to help an event flow across the site
Prevent overcrowding
Investigate incidents such as safety incidents e.g. report of smoke or fire, collapsed person etc
Respond to emergencies such as evacuation
