The Stage Pit is a very busy working area. The raised platform near the barriers providers a safety working area for pit staff.
Pit staff (stewarding team) will often extricate those over the barrier to obtain medical support. The Pit Supervisor will act as a spotter - stood off to one site on the raised platform looking at the crowd for abnormal gaps or crowd movements. They will be in constant contact with Event Control.
A water supply should be available in this area. Best practice would suggest that the first 6 rows in the crowd should be kept hydrated.
Security staff: are often based in the pit to protect the stage infrastructure and prevent unauthorised people for entering the area such as the stage - often people maliciously get crowd surfed to the front to get on the stage!
Technical Production: Sound, lighting, video teams may be working in preparation for the next act as well as the one that's on!
Press / Media: often for the first 3 songs of any artists - they will usually stick to crowd barriers or hide behind crowd infrastructure.
Hearing protection for staff based in this area is required at all times!
Stage LEFT, Stage RIGHT is used to provide directions. These directions are given as if you are the performer on the stage (facing the audience)!
Some people refer to HOUSE LEFT or HOUSE RIGHT - the HOUSE is the audience.
Therefore STAGE LEFT AND HOUSE RIGHT are the same
