Ian S. Peebles

I am currently the Harold T. Shapiro Postdoctoral Research Associate in Bioethics for Princeton University's Center for Human Values.  Beginning Fall 2024, I will join Arizona State University's School of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies as an Assistant Professor of Philosophy. In 2022, I completed my Ph.D. in philosophy at the University of Pennsylvania, while also studying social, cognitive, and affective neuroscience in Penn's Center for Neuroscience and Society.

I specialize in ethics, bio/neuroethics, and the philosophy of race.  Currently, much of my time is spent thinking about race, racism, and their relationships to health, medicine, and emerging biotechnologies.  Additionally, I'm interested in how virtue ethics (or moral philosophy more generally) might influence investigation into contemporary social issues typically monopolized by political philosophy.  For more on my research, please click here.
