Kelsea Ballerini is undoubtedly in love. She married fellow country singer Morgan Evans in December. However, as much as the newlywed loves being in love, she hates love songs enough to write a song about it.

Ballerini will perform her new single "I Hate Love Songs" on the 53rd Academy of Country Music Awards Sunday night. She said the performance is soaked in glitter and is the biggest production she's ever had on an awards show. It's an important moment in her career and at the center of it is a song that almost didn't happen.

Ballerini had written 200 songs for her album "Unapologetically" and she thought she was finished. She had three co-writing appointments left before she had to turn in the project when she met with Trevor Rosen from Old Dominion and hit songwriter Shane McAnally. They asked her what kind of song she needed to round out the album.

"I was like, 'Guys, I think I need another love song, but I hate love songs," Ballerini said. "We all kind of looked at each other and it was that magical moment that you fish for in every co-write, and we just wrote it. it was so fun to make those rhymes bounce like (Dr. Seuss-like) kind of rhymes. It really did write itself."

\"There's a hidden meaning for me in that line,\" Clarkson said in an interview on Talk Shop Live, referring to a famous line from \"The Notebook\" that she referenced in her song. \"It was just to reference, like, how I think we're taught at such a young age, this is how it works: You fall in love and everything will be OK -- it's like, what happened after they got together? Because there is life after.\"

\"I feel like 'It's Complicated,' which is the other movie I reference in [the song] -- it's just more real life,\" she said. \"It's more like what might happen, rather than the other one. So, I just kind of feel like we're sold on things.\"

\"Not to say that that doesn't exist and life can't be that and love can't be that. I just mean, it is funny how we're set up for failure because nothing can live up to this ideal we've kind of been fed,\" she added. \"And so, it's just being playful with it.\"

When asked about getting Martin to be part of the song, Clarkson said she is \"still shocked that he said yes.\" The Grammy-winning singer said she always had the actor in mind for it and wasn't sure he'd say yes since he's referenced in the song.

While Clarkson and Martin still haven't met in real life (Martin recorded the banjo part of the song separately), the singer said she's heard that Martin liked the line in the song: \"So, you can keep Gosling and I'll take Steve Martin.\"

Confession: I love listening to love songs. The melody. The patience the artist gives every element, creating beautiful harmony, accompanied by smooth vibrations and rhythms that take you into a new universe. But I hate them too. I hate how vulnerable I become listening to every word of patience, hope, monogamy and embracing the imperfections of someone who embraces yours.

I tried to own you I thought I would (he "thought" he owned her but she wasn't loyal)I want to peel the skin from your face (as a result he's angry/feeling violent)Before the real you lays to waste (the "real" her is a cheater)

You told me I'm the only one (clear hint that she cheated)Sweet little angel you should have run (to escape his anger)Lying, crying, dying to leaveInnocence creates my hell (HIS innocence in trusting her)

Lost inside my sick headI live for you but I'm not alive (he feels out of control, dead inside)Take my hand before I kill (feels like killing the "other" guy)I still love you, but, I still burn (yet still loves her)

Man this song is about sooooo much more than that. Read it again. Feel his anquish. This song is about the suffering the author is going through in general and how this person he is with is his only salvation but at the same time the only thing that stops him from giving into his greatest evils. He loves and wants to love but feels as if life has no meaning so it creates a downward spiral of emotional and concious breakdown. "Innocence creates my hell' is both a reference to her innocence but also is full of melancholy towards the innocence that he used to posses which she draws out of him. Once again causing him to try to 'feel' human again instead of just giving into the beast.

In my opinion, this song is primarily about the author's mixed feeling about his girlfriend and his inability to fully commit to a relationship with a girl, he feels he is not able to love his partner either because of his own emotional troubles or because she isn't really the right person to love.

The second line is, imho, about unhealthy behaviour in a relationship when you feel insecure because you question your partner's commitment so you try to rule every aspect of your partner's life (also "Try to understand me little girl/My twisted passion to be your world")and literally flood her/him with love but feel empty inside because you feel your love is not returned("I live for you but I'm not alive")Or maybe it's the author complaining that he wasn't able to create a genuine bond with his girlfriend.

Apart from references to violence that appear throughout the song (the "hate theme"), I would say this is mainly about wanting that your partner be honest with you (I want to know "the real you", to find out what your true feelings about me are)

As some people mentioned before, I also think it's either about a girl who cheated on the author or the author thinks she did - "you told me I'm the only one/cheating myself still you know more". And the underlying theme is - once again - his insecurity - he isn't sure if she truly loves him or not so he acts like crazy.

I think this line is totally brilliant - it perfectly describes his ambivalent feelings towards the girl - he wants to hurt her because he thinks she betrayed him but at the same time she loves her and feels pity for her and thus he dissociates from these violent feelings.

My interpretation is probably wrong but, imo, that "innocence" could mean that he or she pretends everything is ok and that's why he can't really vent his feelings and talk about his insecurities/issues openly.

This probably means that even though he tries to convince himself that her feelings for him are true and everything is ok and he doubts his love for her at the same time, she "knows more"= is better in cheating, i.e. she - in his opinion - really cheats on him with someone else, not just questioning her own feelings like he does.

If you're engaged emotionally when having sex, it's a lot more difficult for you than if that person doesn't mean anything to you. It's a vulnerability thing, you try to think that you would feel better if you didn't have to deal with your emotions, hence the line - you feel nothing, you can't be hurt.

I think that the fact that the words such as "sick head", "twisted passion" and references to acts of violence and probable inability to love someone appear so often in the lyrics should imply that the author perceives his behaviour as inappropriate and yet he thinks he can't help himself because he is somehow emotionally crippled. Someone mentioned this happens to very sensitive people, I think this is very true.

That's another powerful line - and i guess this is about insecurity too - he's about to be aggressive because he doesn't know if she doesn't play with him but if she shows him real affection (takes his hand) he wouldn't be able to hurt her.

From Layne himself..."That was a song about myself and my girlfriend and I wrote it during a time when I was treating her really badly and didn't know how to break the pattern. It was kind of therapeutic, you know? When you really don't know how to break a sick pattern, then you write it down and sing it and it kind of breaks the pattern."This was probably about Layne and Demri's relationship. Although it could have been written just before they met also since this song was written near the start of their relationship.

So Kameradin almost nailed it, I also think it's about a guy who has been cheated. But in my view he is also about to kill his girlfriend, this song is a speech he does to her before he kills her. Notice how he's talking not 'about' her, but 'directly' to her, in second person.

I tried to love you I thought I couldI tried to own you I thought I wouldI want to peel the skin from your faceBefore the real you lays to waste (he wishes to keep her innocent-looking face with him before the "real" her, the cheater that she is, "lays to waste", dies by his hand)You told me I'm the only one

Sweet little angel, you should have run (he is locked with her somewhere and now she can't flee, he did so after she confessed to him she cheated)Lying, crying, dying to leave (she tries to lie, cry, implore to leave the place where they're locked)Innocence creates my hell

Cheating myself, still you know more (he's ironizing how killing her would be his end, yet she is the one who understands more of cheating out of them both)It would be so easy with a whore (contemplating how sleeping with a whore would be easier than this relationship)Try to understand me, little girlMy twisted passion to be your world

Lost inside my sick headI live for you but I'm not alive (again with irony, he says his life is hers, but he's not alive anymore after what she did)Take my hand before I kill (he's telling her to stop him before he loses control and kills her)I still love you, but, I still burn (he's telling her he still loves her, but also hates her)

Anyway, the Grammy-nominated country singer is wearing a hot pink ballgown and matching sparkly undies in the music vid, which opens with her spinning around on a big red heart while confetti hits her in the face. She then dodges the clichd bouquet toss at a wedding, interrupts a proposal in a diner, pops a bunch of Valentine's Day balloons, and third-wheels with a couple who is just tryin' to Netflix-and-chill. Eventually, in a fake scene right out of The Notebook, she meets up with a boy in the pouring rain. But when she goes in for the big romantic kiss, she winds up getting rain in her eyes instead, and so she grimaces and runs off set to get ceremoniously wrapped up in a wool blanket and shuttled out of view. Hilarious! Of course, once she's safely inside, her cell phone rings with a phone call from "M," which she answers with a big smile in the very last scene. And obviously, that "M" means her perfect hubby, Morgan, is calling her to brighten her day all the way up! 152ee80cbc
