Specializing in 20th- and 21st-century Black and women-of-color poetry and other cultural productions in and beyond the context of the U.S., my scholarship is located at the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, and aesthetics. The primary goal of my research is to show how literary and other aesthetic practices by minoritarian artists respond to the systemic violence of the racist and sexist schema maintained by heteronormative white supremacist apparatuses of power, and in so doing, let us imagine how racialized and gendered bodies might enact alternative modes of being and belonging beyond those existing systems.
