HYPOGRAM
Established in 2024 in Malmö, Sweden, we seek to collaborate with and support artists, makers, and enthusiasts interested in exploring the potential of photo-chemical imaging practices and technologies. Through workshops, screenings, events and a reading group, we aim to foster a community that values and advocates for the continuation of materialist forms of photographic and cinematic expression. Our workshops provide participants opportunities to expand their skills and knowledge, bringing together those who share curiosity and passion for these creative possibilities.
Individual Workshop Sessions for Summer 2025
Introduction to Film Developing - 35mm C-41 Colour Negatives
Date to be confirmed, 550kr, Up to six participants
Learn to develop 35mm colour negative film in this beginner-friendly, hands-on workshop focused on the C-41 process. Over three hours, you’ll be guided through the entire workflow—from loading your film in a developing tank and mixing chemistry to processing your roll and producing rich, colour negatives ready for scanning or printing. Perfect for anyone curious about colour film but lacking darkroom access, the session is designed to demystify home processing and build practical confidence. Participants are asked to bring one exposed roll of C-41 process 35mm film to develop, while all other materials, equipment, and chemistry will be provided during the workshop.
Recurring Initiatives - Learn It Together
While our single-session workshops are typically led by instructors with experience in a specific area, our Learn It Together sessions are facilitated by individuals actively seeking to deepen their understanding of a particular practice or method. These peer-led sessions invite collaborative inquiry and create a space for participants to contribute to a shared learning process. Emphasising open dialogue and mutual exchange, Learn It Together aims to build knowledge and connections through open-ended creative exploration. Learn It Together sessions are open to all regardless of experience or ability. They are generally more flexible in format, less restricted in participant numbers, and offered at a lower cost to encourage broad accessibility and inclusion.
Cyanacademy
Beginning in Summer 2025 (date TBC), we’re launching Cyanacademy—an open programme dedicated to exploring and expanding the understanding of cyanotype, a 180-year-old photographic technique that continues to inspire curiosity and creativity today. The sessions will involve hands-on experimentation, making cyanotypes on a range of substrates, such as Japanese washi paper made from kozo (mulberry), sheets of glass, and aluminium. We will explore alternative toning methods using natural dyes, creating results that extend beyond the process’s conventional Prussian blue signature and over time, we will build rich understandings of the myriad possibilities of this medium.
Although it is conceived as an ongoing and evolving project, participants are welcome to join at any time. No prior experience is necessary—only a curiosity about the cyanotype process and a willingness to engage critically and creatively with its potential.
Participation is based on a suggested donation of 100 - 200kr that you can Swish or give in cash at each workshop.
If you would like to know more or book a place on any of the workshops, please send an email to hypogramstudio@gmail.com

The Reading Group
The reading group aims to develop and deepen understandings of photographic image cultures and their broader implications. While photography is commonly associated with lens-based imagery, the term "photographic" can also encompass cameraless image-making practices that utilise sensing recording technologies such as X-ray, Lidar, and 3D scanning. Additionally, it encompasses artistic methods that employ traditional photo-chemical processes, which continue to inform contemporary artistic practices and modes of production.
The group will meet monthly to engage with key texts that reflect and complement the themes and methods explored in our workshops and screenings.
The reading group aims to engage with contemporary discourses around photography and moving image practice, paying particular attention to pertinent questions of our time, not limited to framing of photographic culture within artistic expression but concerning broader issues surrounding topics such as sustainability, artificial intelligence and more-than-human agency.
Alofilab Returns
Some of you may remember the fabled Alofilab meet-ups that took place at Stpln’s old location in Västra Hamnen—nights where analogue film lovers, experimental photographers, and curious newcomers gathered to share knowledge, tools, and the joy of hands-on image-making. Back then, Alofilab wasn’t just a place to develop film—it was a community, a collective effort to keep photo-chemical and alternative processes alive through collaboration and open access.
When Stpln relocated, the new space couldn't support darkroom or chemical-based work, and the informal group behind Alofilab quietly scattered. Equipment and materials found temporary homes in attics, basements, and closets, waiting for the right moment to return. Later this year, Hypogram will support that return, this time hosting sessions at Lilla Stan’s Verkstad.
Alofilab at Lilla Stan will be monthly open evenings where you can hang out, ask questions, share what you’re working on, and connect with like-minded analog enthusiasts. Entry will be by donation, and your contributions will support keeping the community alive.
