Formed by the senior members of FTC Team 9614 Hyperion, our mission was to push robot performance to the limit while mentoring the rookies of Hyperion to build their own robot in a full season experience.
At the beginning of the 2024-2025 season, after recruiting a large batch of new students, mostly middle schoolers, and teaching them over the summer, we planned to build two robots under 9614: a simple robot for the first qualifying tournament, and a more complex robot for the second qualifying tournament and onwards. The first robot would be built by the rookies as training while we, the experienced seniors would provide guidance and mentor throughout the process.
After the first qualifying tournament, the rookies’ robot was very successful; they set the California record score and won the tournament to advance to the regional championship. We were so proud of them that we wished to motivate them to keep iterating their robot and competing for the full season to gain experience at higher level competitions. Meanwhile, we seniors also had some ideas to test in a new robot design. Instead of taking apart the rookie’s robot, we formed this team to have more opportunities for both teams to develop and compete.
