The Galactic Gap, or simply the Gap, is a large stretch of interstellar space completely devoid any stars located in the northern region of galaxy. At its widest point, the Gap is over 2,000 light years wide and 660 light years at its thinnest. This thin stretch is known as the Gap's Bridge. On one end of the Bridge is the Hyperbrasil star system and on the other is the MG star system. As far as scientific observations over the last 2,000 or so years have revealed, there is nothing between Hyperbrasil and MG.

Jell-Gap Thoroughfare refers to the Gap's Bridge as traveled in hyperspace or Jell. Even in Jell, the travel time is long and especially dangerous. Because there are no opportunities to refuel or resupply along the way, the journey must be made without stops and all necessities must be brought along with the vessel. Should a major problem arise, chances of rescue are slim; anything required to fix or replace a broken element must also be taken along.
The Jell-Gap Thoroughfare is regularly used to transport unique and especially valuable goods between the Hyperbrasil star system and MG star system. Passengers are also ferried between the systems, albeit at a lower rate than that of cargo.
Departing vessels make excellent bounties for pirates, so ships are often armed with some amount of defenses−only enough to deter pirate attacks, but not completely disable or destroy enemy vessels.
Legends of migrating lifeforms in the Gap are common, though no proof of space whales have been found there.
Other common stories tell of lost spaceships that cannot find their way to a star. While is certainly possible, it very uncommon for ships or True ISV's to become completely lost.
