정혁 교수는 서울대학교를 졸업하고(Summa Cum Laude) 시카고대학에서 경제학 박사학위를 받았다. 경제성장과 국제개발 분야의 연구와 교육을 하고 있으며, 미국 University of Southern California(USC)와 Vanderbilt 대학 경제학과 교수, World Bank Consultant Economist, 일본 National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies(GRIPS) 교수를 거쳐, 2012년 KDI 국제정책대학원 교수와 KDI CID 개발연구실장을 역임하고, 2015년 이후 서울대학교 국제대학원 교수로 재직 중이다. 서울대학교 동창회장상, 한국고등교육재단 Fellowship, William and Flora Hewlett Foundation Fellowship, Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Fellowship, 기획재정부 장관 표창 등의 상훈이 있다. 청와대, 국무총리실, 기획재정부 등 정부 기관과 대한상공회의소, UNDP, World Bank, UNFPA, OECD DAC 등 국제기구와 미국 국무부 National Committee on American Foreign Policy 등의 자문위원으로 다양한 영역의 정책자문에 기여하고 있으며, 한국개발정책학회장으로 국제사회에서 한국의 국제개발협력과 대외경제협력 발전을 위한 정책수립과 민간부문 학술 및 기업 생태계 형성을 위해 노력하고 있다. 주요 연구 관심 영역은 성장과 불평등, 인적자본 개발, 금융과 개발, 노동시장 인구구조 변화, 국제무역과 기업의 동태변화, 한국경제 발전경험 지식공유, 국제개발협력, 북한경제개발, 과학기술혁신과 스마트시티 개발, 토지·부동산의 거시경제적 이해 등을 포함하고 있다.

Hyeok Jeong, Ph.D. from University of Chicago, worked at the Economics Departments of University of Southern California and Vanderbilt University in the United States, at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) in Japan, and also at the KDI School of Public Policy and Management in Korea, before he joined the faculty of Graduate School of International Studies at the Seoul National University in 2015, where he works now.

Professor Jeong was a visiting scholar at the University of Chicago, at UCLA, and at the Institute of Empirical Macroeconomics of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. He also worked at World Bank as a Consultant Economist and served as the Director of Development Research Division of Center for International Development at KDI.

Professor Jeong's main research interests are various areas of growth and inequality with particular focus on finance and human capital. His recent research agenda include Korean development experience, North Korean economy, demographic transition, science and technology innovations, smart city urban development, macroeconomic dynamics of land and housing, firm dynamics and international trade, higher education reform, and international development cooperation issues such as knowledge sharing and development finance to facilitate the global development.

He also serves public domains by consulting Korean government and public agencies (Blue House, Office of Prime Minister, Ministry of Economy and Finance, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, Ministry of Unification, Bank of Korea, Export-Import Bank of Korea, and Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry) as well as the US public agencies (National Committee on American Foreign Policy) and international agencies (World Bank, UNDP, UNFPA, OECD DAC).
