WHAT
Cleaning up trash & spending time outside! We also may do some weeding and light brush clearing.
WHEN
Hyde Park Together's cleanup days are on hiatus as of Summer 2023 because the Chicago Park District is now fully staffed and has been doing much more frequent cleanup using their own paid workers in our target area. We see this as a good thing!
If you're looking for similar volunteer opportunities in the area, we recommend checking out our neighbors at Promontory Point Conservancy, which organizes regular cleanup days nearby, on the East side of Lake Shore Drive at Promontory Point.
WHERE — Burnham Park along S Shore Drive (meet here)
We clean up in the section of Burnham Park along South Shore Drive between 53rd and 56th street, near the entrance to Promontory Point (see map below). On cleanup days, meet us at the park benches near the playground entrance on South Shore Drive between 54th and 55th any time in the cleanup window — if you don't see us, we may be cleaning up elsewhere in the park, but there will be a bag of supplies on the park bench.
WHAT TO BRING —
We will have garbage bags/buckets, work gloves, and hand sanitizer available for all. (BYO water bottle). However, if you have your own buckets or trash grabbers, we encourage you to bring them with you.
