The Applied Language Institute Hybrid Business English Program provides an online business English-language program with a focus on cross-cultural communication and business writing and presentation skills. A minimum of 5 participants is required to run the program. Students will be tested prior to enrollment as they are required to have at least a B1 level of English.
Participants will have two 12-hour courses over the span of one or two months.
Course One will introduce US business culture and communication, providing an overview of US business norms, expectations, and key vocabulary. The course will also focus on professional language for meetings and negotiations as well as cross-cultural communication and interpersonal skills.
Course Two will introduce students to essential business writing formats and technology tools to enhance presentations. The course will also provide opportunities for students to practice their reading, writing, and discussion skills on case studies in economics, accounting, and administration.
All participants will have opportunities to visit local businesses in the Kansas City metropolitan region, where they will go on guided tours and speak with business representatives on topics of interest.
All participants will also have time to complete and present their capstone project, in which they will synthesize insights from case studies and business communication training into a cohesive analysis of a selected business topic, including examples from the visits in Kansas City.
