During three months of intensive study in the Google UX Design Certificate Course, I focused on enhancing my skills and knowledge in user experience design. As the culmination of the first part of the course, I developed a mobile app concept for a platform that connects tutors and learners.
Drawing on my over three years of experience as an online English tutor, I identified a need for a user-friendly platform that simplifies the process of finding and booking lessons.
TutorLand is a user-friendly mobile app designed to connect learners with qualified tutors.
Whether you’re a parent seeking a tutor for your child or an adult looking to learn a new skill, TutorLand simplifies the process of finding and booking qualified tutors. The app connects learners with experienced tutors in a variety of subjects, including language learning, music, and academic subjects.
Many learners struggle to find qualified tutors. They face challenges in searching for tutors based on specific qualifications and experience, assessing tutor credibility through reviews and ratings, and efficiently booking and scheduling lessons.
Our goal is to create an app that simplifies the process of finding and booking tutors. The app will enable users to:
Search and filter tutors based on their qualifications, experience, and availability.
Read reviews and ratings from other users to assess tutor credibility.
Easily book and schedule lessons with their chosen tutors.
Securely make payments for tutoring sessions.
As a generalist UX/UI Designer, I was responsible for the entire design process. This included conducting user research, creating user personas and journey maps, wireframing, prototyping, designing UI elements etc.
Through user interviews and data analysis, I identified distinct user segments. For each segment, I developed detailed user personas, complete with concise user stories and mapped-out user journeys.

"As a retired Ukrainian speaker, whose daughter has married an Englishman and moved to England, I want to find an app that helps me easily find and book lessons with patient and qualified English tutors, so I can effectively communicate in English with my son-in-law and his family."
I've created a user journey map for Michaela. This map helps me understand how she interacts with the site and identify potential areas for improvement in her user experience.
Having noticed her son struggling with maths, Michaela wants to help him improve. She believes a special app could be helpful, allowing her to search for and book tutors directly. However, she is very concerned about the qualifications of potential tutors.
As part of the design process, I created user flows to map out user interactions, developed paper and digital wireframes to visualize the interface, and conducted a usability study to gather user feedback and identify areas for improvement.
I explored various homescreen designs, prioritizing navigation. The best elements from each design were integrated into the final version.
With all the details and the research study process itself, you can meet below.
Users need better cues for what steps are required to find a tutor.
Users need a more intuitive way to access it easily, like the button "Learn More".
Users need an additional "Booking Review" screen before payment confirmation.
Users need more information about next steps after booking confirmation.
Users need an additional option to book lessons on a regular basis.
Following a usability study, I revised and improved the wireframes. You can see them here.
Based on the findings of the usability study, I developed components, mock-ups and prototypes.

Peer feedback highlighted the design's strong points, including its ease of navigation, visually appealing imagery, and well-defined visual hierarchy.
While working on this project, I learned how to organize the app development process, conduct usability studies during the design phase, and effectively incorporate usability study findings to improve the app's functionality and design
Next Steps
After completing the TutorLand App for students seeking tutors, I began implementing the concept for tutors who wish to find students and earn income. I have created a persona, defined the user story and started designing wireframes.

As an experienced online English tutor, I want to find a reliable platform where I can easily connect with new students, so that I can focus on teaching and ensure consistent income.

Now I am still in the process of realizing this concept.
