Materials Needed:

• Yarn (acrylic, medium weight):

  • Red (50g)

  • Dark green 

  • Light yellow 

  • Purple (or dark brown) 

• Others:

  • Scissors

  • Darning needle(s)

  • 4.5 or 5.0 mm hook

  • 3.5 mm hoook

  • 4.0 mm hook

Hat pattern:

    0. Start with a magic ring or ch 4 and sl st to the first ch to form circle

1. Ch 2 and 12dc into ring/circle, sl st to top of ch 2 (12st total not counting ch 2)

2. Ch 2 and 1dc into same st, 2dc (inc) into each st around (24st total)

3. Ch 2 (counts as single dc), dc inc into next, 1dc into next, rep dc inc and 1dc around (36st total)

4. Ch 2 (counts as first single dc), 1dc into next st, dc inc into next, 1dc into next 2 sts, dc inc into next st, rep 2 single dc and 1dc inc around (48st total)

5. Ch 2, 1dc into next 2 st, dc inc into next, 1dc into next 3 sts, dc inc into next st, rep this pattern for round 5 (60st total)

6. Ch 2, 1 dc into next 3st, dc inc into next, 1dc into next 4sts, dc into next st, rep this pattern for round 6 (72st total)

7. Ch 2 start of every round and skip sl st when ending next round, dc 1 every st for 4-6 (I did 5) and don’t finish off

For the brim: Use 3.5 hook size

8. Ch 6, skip 1 and insert hook into 2nd ch, and 5 sc down chs. 

9. 2 sl st into base/hat and then turn, and 5 sc blo up brim piece

10.  At top of brim piece, ch 1, and 5 sc blo down brim piece

11. At base, 2 sl st then turn and 5 sc blo up brim piece

12. Rep this pattern for entire brim

Eyes:

Green detail, 4.0mm hook:

1. Ch 5, skip 1 to turn and 4 sc down chs, in last st, sc 3 total (so 2 more) then work down back side and sc 4 more

2. At other end, sc 3 total and then don’t finish last sc and switch to light yellow to finish sc (or do whatever kind of color change method you prefer)

3. 1 sc around for 2 rows (in the first row, sc 3 in the corners again) and then tie off (leave long tail for sewing)

4. Repeat for second eye

Nose:

Green detail, 4.0mm hook:

1. Magic ring, ch 2, 8 dc into circle, pull end to close and tie off (leave long tail for sewing)

Antennas:

Purple detail, 4.0mm hook:

1. Magic ring, ch 1, 4 sc into circle and pull end to close

2. 4 sc inc for first round (8st total)

3. 4 dec (4st total)

4. 1 sc in each st for 5 rounds (20st total)

5. Sl st across 2-3 times then tie off with long tail for sewing

Sewing:

Sew the eyes on starting at around the 5th row and around 3 st apart

The nose can be sewn on starting at the 9th row in the middle of the eyes

The antennas can be sewn on the 2nd row
