PROJECT CONCEPT
Project H.I.M.S.U.G. (Healthcare Initiative for Malnourished Society in Unlocking Growth) is a community-engagement initiative project that aims to address stunting induced by malnutrition in Barangay Ermita, Cebu City, which has the highest rate of malnutrition, with nearly one in five children under five years old considered malnourished. Project HIMSUG strives to fulfill its goals by providing mothers with educational knowledge that will improve their children's overall physical, mental, and nutritional development.
This project will focus on enhancing the parents' skills in terms of properly assessing the needs of their children to prevent stunting by educating the mothers about its causes and its underlying connection with malnutrition. With this established strategy, once each family's actions are strengthened, they will then have a greater impact on the community's progressive health development. Project HIMSUG will evidently serve as a bridge in addressing the gap between the previous actions taken in the community to address malnutrition and assessing what could be done differently through its goals. Furthermore, this project initiative is driven by the goal of imparting social and communication skills development to the residents and aiding the barangay concerned authorities in making it sustainable and efficiently successful. With Project HIMSUG's goal in mind, the project researchers will adapt to the concept of having sponsored partnerships with organizations, agencies, and other capable individuals through solicitations and agreements of partnership. In this case, the project initiative will be regarded as a solidarity act of charity between communities and will eventually aid the implementation and success of Project HIMSUG. This will not only be focused on the enrichment of the community itself as a whole, but also on the diverse aspect of having support from other communities.
With the specified objectives and procedures for the implementation of Project HIMSUG, possible partners and other individuals that will support the cause can be assured of the effectiveness and feasibility of the overall flow of Project HIMSUG. In addition, one of the reasons why this issue is enduring is due to a lack of knowledge and understanding of the topic. Hence, the project not only arranges health-related services such as feeding programs, free check-ups, and so on, but also focuses on providing educational awareness regarding malnutrition in a simple, understandable, and collaborative way in order to help the residents learn how to address the issue themselves, rather than solely giving resolutions and not letting the people affected learn about it.
Project HIMSUG is distinctive from other related and existing strategies for dealing with malnutrition as it requires the full cooperation of the community concerned—they possess a significant role in its attainment. The project researchers will be the ones to initiate the program, but the residents will also be taught to sustain it themselves. It is primarily through the sustainability and adaptivity of the community to the project that the project researchers can determine its success. With all of this in mind, the commitment of parties involved in the implementation of Project HIMSUG can clearly determine its benefits after resolving and addressing the social issue.
