Human-centered AI Workshop

Highlighting AI-HCI Emerging Research and Fostering US-Taiwan Research Collaboration

December 21, 2024 (Saturday)

R103, CSIE Building (Der Tian Hall), National Taiwan University, Taipei

Taiwan, a cornerstone in the global technology landscape, has a thriving Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) community. This is especially relevant as Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to elevate the importance of user-centered design and human-AI interaction. Fostering the United States' advanced and outstanding AI-HCI research in Taiwan, with a focus on “AI for All,” supports progress in both AI and HCI. Strategic collaboration between the United States and Taiwan in HCI research and education holds significant potential to drive innovation. This workshop aims to strengthen the relationship between these two communities by fostering deeper academic and professional exchanges. It also seeks to establish sustainable connections through various approaches rather than limiting efforts to a one-day workshop.

Despite the active participation of Taiwanese professionals and students in the US-based HCI community, local students in Taiwan often lack awareness of and access to US resources and collaboration opportunities. This workshop seeks to bridge this gap by strengthening connections in three key ways: 1) raising awareness of HCI research and educational opportunities, 2) facilitating networking between students and US HCI professionals, and 3) fostering long-term collaborations through student exchanges and joint research projects.

The workshop features a one-day session as a central initiative to connect Taiwanese students with a broad network of US and Taiwanese HCI professionals. The workshop will include sessions highlighting research in human-AI interaction and human-centered AI, along with interactive panels featuring academic and industry leaders. By hosting this workshop, the initiative can effectively link students to opportunities in the US, nurturing professional growth and enriching collaboration within the broader US-Taiwan HCI community.
