" What do you mean they don't care about the Sanken?"
" What do you mean they don't care about the Sanken?"
If you've come all this way, then that means you are interested in knowing how and or why I've come to do what I do. Then please, do allow me to tell you my story.
As far as I can remember, I've always been fascinated by either the music or the sounds and soundscapes of any media I've consumed in my life. For some reason I feel more emotions through my ears over every other senses. And to this day I still cry just by listening to Joe Hisaishi's score and feel chills when I listen to Metal Gear Solid 3's main theme, the ping from the motion sensor in Alien or the roar of the T-rex still sends shivers down my spine and Godzilla's scream, old or recent, still fills my heart with glee. I could name a few dozens of different examples that made me feel things or inspired me but we would get nowhere...
When it comes down to my journey to where I do what I love, know that I took a few detours. At first, I never thought that I'd work in this industry, mostly because of poor self-confidence. I was lucky enough to take part in a short internship at the end of 9th grade at Mactari Studio in Paris where I've discovered briefly the world of audio post-production from recording foleys to mixing. But then I went on finishing high school and even starting a bachelor in literature without looking back.
During all this time, I kept consuming large amounts of different type of movies and video games without thinking about making it my job but the same thoughts kept appearing in my head, "How did they make that sound ? ", "What did they use as a source material?", "How is it implemented, what triggers it?" etc.... All those question kept piling inside my head until I had reach a turning point in my life. I simply decided to take a crack at it, just making the sound design and the music editing for a video that had no sound. I had never felt more joy and pride in doing something creative even though I had very little to no knowledge.
At this point, I dropped my studies that I struggled to follow because of a lack of motivation and fulfillment. I decided to do a complete 180 and start my studies anew, disregarding my low self-confidence that was holding me back all this time now that I'm looking back.
I then began my studies at ISART DIGITAL in 2022 where I've learned how to record, edit and create sounds and soundscapes that would fit the world, emotions and story that we as a team of students wanted to convey to the audience or the players. I also found a deep appreciation in audio integration, trying to solve puzzle-like problem on how to implement sounds and music, and mixing them in middleware such as FMOD and Wwise and also sometimes directly into Unity or Unreal.
Although I stopped writing music to focus on sound design and audio integration, I strived to learn by myself how to mix different types of music, be it for movie, a video game or simply for a music album.
And now you know my story, what a rant journey, huh ?
