Hilltop Road Public School

Year 3 PBL

The year 3 students of Hilltop Road Public School have been working to answer the question 'How can we, as Australians, support our disaster affected communities?'. They researched the causes, effects and responses to various natural disasters that have occurred in Australia's history. Hilltop Road students connected with the students of Broulee Public School, in an area of New South Wales that was devastated by the 2019-2020 fire season. Our students heard first hand accounts from students who were forced to evacuate, separated from their families and even lost their homes. The students of Hilltop Road were inspired to do all they can to show and share their support for the Broulee students, and solved their PBL problem through fundraising, acts of kindness, promoting tourism and raising awareness.

Zoom with Broulee Public School

We thank Mr David Watts and the students of Broulee Public School for taking the time to organise and conduct a zoom meeting for our students. The chance to speak to the students of Broulee Public and hear their first hand accounts of their experiences made their work all the more meaningful.
