Nubian Goats
Ernie and Emma
These sweet little dairy goats originally came from West Africa, but now they can be found all over the world, and they thrive in areas with sparse vegetation that wouldn’t support other dairy or meat animals.
Nubians come in many colors and markings, black, tan, chestnut, white and spotted. They are smart and friendly and make wonderful farm pets.
Male Nubian goats have a beard, hollow and corkscrew-like horns, and can be black, white, red, brown, or multi-colored. The males are usually larger than the females. Can you tell which one is Ernie and which one is Emma?
Nubian goats is said to make the most delicious cheese, because it contains a special protein that is important in cheesemaking, and their milk has a super-high butterfat content. This makes the Nubian the most popular dairy goat in America.
When Ernie first came to us, after his farm was no longer able to support him, he needed a great deal of care. He’d had polio, was blind, has arthritis and sometimes has a hard time walking. With the right medical care, which includes thiamine, baby aspirin, and turmeric and paprika, he’s now healthy and happy.
