If you want a dedicated, permanent mounting solution for your Tomtom device that includes a protective coaster and a long warranty, choose HQRP Car Windshield Cradle; if you need a versatile mount kit to easily transfer a single Garmin unit between multiple vehicles, choose Aftermarket GPS Car Window. This isn't about which one is "better" in a vacuum; it is about matching the hardware to your specific driving routine and navigation needs. Both products serve as essential accessories for keeping your dash cams or GPS units secure, but they solve different problems with distinct approaches to design and utility.
• HQRP Car Windshield Cradle: Its biggest strength is the inclusion of a dedicated coaster and a 200-day warranty, offering peace of mind for a fixed installation. The trade-off is its strict compatibility with only Tomtom GO 730 series devices, making it useless for other brands.
• Aftermarket GPS Car Window: Its greatest advantage is universal mobility, designed specifically to let users swap a Garmin nüvi unit between two or more cars in seconds without hassle. The trade-off is that it lacks the extra protective coaster included with the HQRP set.
• Who should buy the HQRP: Drivers who own a Tomtom GO 730 series device and want a stable, single-car setup with added protection against scratches.
• Who should buy the Aftermarket: Users with multiple vehicles who own compatible Garmin nüvi models and prioritize the ability to move their navigation system from one car to another quickly.
The HQRP Car Windshield Cradle is built for the driver who values stability and protection over flexibility. When you look at the specifications, this product is clearly engineered as a specialized tool rather than a general-purpose accessory. It is a mounting unit specifically designated for automobiles, crafted to hold the Tomtom GO 730, GO 730T, and GO 730 Traffic Plus Coaster models securely. If your daily commute relies on a single vehicle and you use one of these specific Tomtom devices, this cradle provides a straightforward, no-nonsense way to keep your screen visible and safe.
One of the most compelling aspects of this product is the inclusion of the HQRP® Coaster alongside the EasyPort Mount. In the context of using a device for dash cam footage or navigation, protecting the back of the unit from direct contact with the suction cup or the mount itself is crucial. Without a coaster, hard plastic backs can scratch or even crack under pressure, especially when the suction cup creates a vacuum seal that pulls tight. The black design of the HQRP cradle blends into the interior of most vehicles, keeping the focus on the road rather than the hardware holding your device.
However, this product has a very narrow lane. It does not work with any other brand, nor does it fit older or newer Tomtom models outside the GO 730 family. If you plan to upgrade your device next year or switch to a different manufacturer, this cradle becomes obsolete immediately. Furthermore, it is not designed for portability. Once you attach it to your windshield, it stays there. This makes it an excellent choice for a primary commuter car where the setup remains constant, but a poor choice if you frequently borrow cars or need to share a navigation unit with a spouse who drives a different vehicle. The 200-day warranty suggests the manufacturer stands behind the durability of the materials used, giving buyers confidence that the suction mechanism will hold up over time without failing prematurely.

In contrast, the Aftermarket GPS Car Window is a masterclass in versatility. This mount was developed with a specific user behavior in mind: the person who owns a high-quality Garmin nüvi device but drives more than one car. This breadth of compatibility means it serves a much larger segment of the market than the HQRP option, but its true value lies in the transfer capability.
The core feature here is the ability to move your Garmin GPS in seconds. Many drivers find themselves needing a reliable navigation system in a second car, whether it is a truck for work, a sedan for errands, or a rental car for a weekend trip. Instead of buying a second mount or struggling to reposition a heavy unit every time you switch vehicles, this aftermarket kit allows you to simply unclip the device from one windshield mount and snap it onto another pre-installed unit. The product claims to meet or exceed original performance standards, which implies that the suction and locking mechanisms are robust enough to handle the vibrations of highway driving without rattling or falling off.
This product is ideal for the multi-car household or the professional driver who rotates vehicles. The black color scheme ensures it remains unobtrusive, but unlike the HQRP cradle, it does not come with a separate coaster mentioned in the specifications. This means the direct connection between the mount and the GPS unit is the primary interface. While this might seem like a minor detail, it highlights a difference in philosophy: the HQRP focuses on protecting the device during a static installation, while the Aftermarket mount prioritizes the mechanical efficiency of moving the device. If you are someone who uses your Garmin nüvi for dash cam purposes or navigation across different locations, this mount saves you the time and frustration of fumbling with adapters or searching for a new holder every time you hop into a different vehicle.
• Best for Single-Vehicle Stability → HQRP Car Windshield Cradle: If you never intend to move your mount, the HQRP setup offers a dedicated, protected fit for your specific Tomtom model.
• Best for Multi-Car Flexibility → Aftermarket GPS Car Window: If you need to take your GPS from your daily driver to a second car, the transfer speed of the Aftermarket kit is unmatched.
• Best Device Compatibility → Aftermarket GPS Car Window: With support for nearly a dozen different Garmin nüvi models, this mount covers a wider range of existing devices than the HQRP cradle.
• Best Protection Package → HQRP Car Windshield Cradle: The inclusion of the coaster provides an extra layer of safety for the back of your Tomtom unit that the Aftermarket mount does not explicitly list.
• Best Warranty Coverage → HQRP Car Windshield Cradle: A 200-day warranty is a tangible benefit that signals a commitment to the longevity of the mount, whereas the Aftermarket product relies on its build quality alone.
• Best for Garmin Owners → Aftermarket GPS Car Window: If you have any of the listed nüvi models, this is the only logical choice; the HQRP cradle will not physically fit your device.
• Best for Tomtom Owners → HQRP Car Windshield Cradle: Conversely, if you rely on the Tomtom GO 730 series, the Aftermarket mount will not be compatible, leaving the HQRP as your sole option.
• Best Value for Frequent Travelers → Aftermarket GPS Car Window: The ability to avoid purchasing multiple mounts by sharing one unit across cars represents significant long-term savings and convenience.
In my opinion, the choice between these two depends entirely on your vehicle situation. If I were setting up a dash cam or navigation system for a single car where the device would stay put, I would lean toward the HQRP Car Windshield Cradle because the included coaster and warranty provide a sense of security and completeness that feels premium. However, for the majority of drivers who likely own a Garmin nüvi and may drive more than one vehicle, the Aftermarket GPS Car Window is the superior practical choice. Its ability to facilitate instant transfers between cars solves a real-world problem that a fixed mount cannot address. Ultimately, I recommend the Aftermarket GPS Car Window for its versatility, unless you are strictly locked into a Tomtom GO 730 setup and want that specific protective bundle.
No, the HQRP Car Windshield Cradle is designed exclusively for the Tomtom GO 730, GO 730T, and GO 730 Traffic Plus Coaster models and will not fit Garmin units.
Yes, the primary function of the Aftermarket GPS Car Window is to allow users to easily transfer their compatible Garmin nüvi GPS unit between multiple vehicles in seconds.
The HQRP package includes a coaster to protect the back of the device from scratches and pressure; omitting it could leave the device vulnerable to damage from the suction cup mechanism.
Both products are described as black mounting units, but the Aftermarket mount is designed to accommodate a wide variety of Garmin sizes, while the HQRP is a custom fit for specific Tomtom dimensions.
