Professor J.A. Kooken and Dr. R.A. Kooken, Sr. were brothers. Professor Kooken was co-principal of Hamilton High School at the turn of the Twentieth Century with Professor J.J. McCollum. Dr. R.A. Kooken, Sr. was a doctor of high renown in the community. His son, Dr. R.A. Kooken II continued the tradition of service to Hamilton owning a medical clinic with Dr. C.C. Cleveland.
The land for the field was donated by Mrs. R.A. Kooken in 1929.
Kooken Field is the home of Hamilton Bulldogs Football and Track.
