There have been schools on College Hill in Hamilton since the Nineteenth Century. The first stone high school building was built before 1895 and was used until 1912 when it burned in a fire. The second rock school was used from at least 1912 until 1951. The current Ann Whitney Elementary Kindergarten building was built on the previous Hamilton High School location. The steps to the old high school remain.
