Quantum computing technologies are maturing at an impressive pace — increasing the enthusiasm and hope among both quantum information scientists and non-quantum computing experts. However, that also means we need to fill critical research gap: what does this quantum technological progress mean for traditional HPC users? What are the current and future use cases for quantum computing devices from an HPC perspective? How should the HPC community prepare for this exciting potential transition where both classical and quantum supercomputers may co-exist, esp. in the context of HPC-AI evolution? What are the key problems that we should focus on in next five year and next fifteen years — in preparation of anticipated co-existence of classical and quantum HPC computing? What does the progress in the quantum computing space mean for educators?
