I am setting up the same thing with a customer and ran into a couple issues. If you want to use ssl (ESX default) you need to copy the esx certificate to the sitescope server and use the sitescope utility to import it. Once yuo have this, you dont need to install anything on the esx server. you just point your new monitor to the esx host link and type in the correct username. you can make a new user with read-only permissions if you want and it will work.
It looks big because we have to make sure we are reading in the correct encoding since we are in Brazil, there are some special latin-1 characters that are not included in utf-8. There are also 2 different log files for each Sitescope (and some sitescopes do not have an alert.log.old).
