I had installed the Driver for the Designjet500ps 42 before in one of my failed trys to make the plotter work. So when I plugged the plotter to my computer using the 36 pin printer cable and try to printer the test page it work and now im able to use it.

- Have created a queue on their computers, including clients that have clean builds, that print directly to the device and expiremented with various drivers from the below package taken from the support site.

The printer was stored away for 2 years and when it woke up it wanted ink cartrige, then it wanted a new print head, then it started saying "Error Processing - Flushing rest of job" when I tried to print to the printer after connectiong to it using the Windows inbuilt "add printer" feature.

I tried to chose diffrent drivers for the printer, but for some reason I don't have the option to change the drivers for the printer in the device managing tool.

I'm reopening this thread because today I had a problem with this plotter in windows 10 64 and I found the solution, both for the driver installation and for Autocad to detect the plotter correctly, because with other HP drivers installed the plotter could print certain types of files such as PDF or JPG, but could not print from AutoCad.

Now, suddenly, in the middle of a job, my Designjet 500 printing process decided to get goofy. I uninstalled it and attempted to reinstall on my up todate Win 10/64 machine. I tried using the HP drivers I already had (and have worked OK) but by following the options that Win provided, I couldn't get it to recognize any files in the HP 500 folder.

I don't know how many hours I've spent trying to find the right driver to get my plotter working on a new computer. Now I'm in business. And wish I had time to go back to all the forums with the incorrect solution and post this one.

Are there no drivers on the HP site? A quick browse of the HP site revealed sevaral drivers for OSx operating systems. I don't know exactly which one you need but maybe this will get you started. If the driver you need is not in this list then browse the HP site. =3 77949&lang=en&cc=us&taskId=135&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=25301

The bottom of the page has a list which includes the HP Designjet 500ps 42" printer; this note is associated with the list: "The new drivers for these models are not included on the Apple Mac OS X Snow Leopard DVD. The latest drivers for these models should be available from Apple Software Updates."

If you can't grab it from Software Update, then download the entire package of HP drivers at That package contains drivers for both the DesigJet 500ps plus 24 (C7769G) and the HP DesignJet 500ps plus 42 (C7770G),

Meanwhile, to anyone who would like to be helpful, please chime in. None of the drivers worked for my brand new laptop with Windows 10. I also tried downloading the driver to the HP 1100 as another poster suggested, but that didn't help since it couldn't recognize the printer.

The drivers to Windows 8.1 (the latest version offered to date) worked, but when I would use HP Instant Printing 3, the job would stall and eventually just sit idle. Apparently, with Windows 10, for some reason it recognizes the job and thinks it goes through when it didn't.

Ours company used HP Designjet 500 for many years and no problem, but it started to brick often and it was hard to repair, last time repair master took few months to get needed part and repair it. So we brought a new ploter HP Designjet T730, but had problems with drivers. Drivers would not work even repair master from HP could not fix it. But after long try to uninstall and install new drivers we solved worst problems and could print, but after some time drivers would crash again and will need to completely remove HP drivers and install again. So new plotter may not help. If old plotter are in working condition you need to try make it work, because it should be driver problem.

I know it's an old thread but I ran into the same problem recently. I upgraded my (old school) boss's pc to Windows 10 and his Designjet 500 no longer worked regardless of what I tried. In the end I disconnected the plotter, uninstalled the driver package in print server properties and plugged it back in. Once the drivers had reinstalled, I went into devices and printers, right clicked on the recently reinstalled designjet, printer properties, into the advanced tab and clicked print directly to printer. It might also help to disable windows from managing the default printer.

I searched far and wide on the web looking for solutions and I've found some workarounds that describe my issue, like not letting windows manage my default printer and using windows 8.1/XP 64bit drivers. Unfortunately nothing seems to be fixing this problem.

On my latest attempt at getting it work after uninstalling it once again and plugging it in it tried to install itself (I guess) and I got on my printer list a "DesignJet 500" printer without any controller and without an option to add a driver controller to it.

Download the latest and official version of drivers for HP DesignJet 500 Plus 42-in Roll Printer. This driver package is available for 32 and 64 bit PCs. It is compatible with the following operating Systems: Windows. Don't worry if you don't know what's your operating system. HP website will automatically detect your device and select the best installer for your OS.

If the driver listed is not the right version or operating system, search our driver archive for the correct version. Enter HP DesignJet 500PS 24 by HP into the search box above and then submit. In the results, choose the best match for your PC and operating system.

Once you have downloaded your new driver, you'll need to install it. In Windows, use a built-in utility called Device Manager, which allows you to see all of the devices recognized by your system, and the drivers associated with them.

I was able with this driver, hpdj500wx64pclit.exe, to use it regularly with windows 10, after reinstalling windows 10, same previous version, and reinstalling this hpdj500wx64pclit.exe driver, the plotter doesn't work, just print the test page. Can anyone suggest me another divrer?

Try going to this site on HP, put in Windows 8.1 64bit and/or Windows 7 64bit and you will get some 64bit drivers for it. Alternatively it will have the option to download HP Instant Printing Application, some have reported good results using that software on old plotters.

Everytime I try to get our schools to work with the Designjet 500 it will not let you go to the print settings for the printer. It refuses to select the Designjet. It picks up another printer on the network. Has anyone had a issue like this? Someone told me that these printers will not work with the Windows 10 properly. However, I am able to use Qimage and it prints fine. But Qimage uses its own driver built in the software. We are trying to print some banners for some clubs at the school. Thanks in advance for helping.

In the printer and print drivers installed on all your school's PC. Even network Printers drivers must be installed on your machines and show up in your System and applications dialogs. You may need to add the printer as a network printer. To make is listen in Photoshop's Print setting dialog printer pull down. 006ab0faaa
