Followed what Robert said and was able to update the switch--Though for anyone finding this, there are several versions of firmware that recommend having a prior version. I went from (Example) 15.1 .x ->15.2.x -> 15.3.x ->15.3.x -> [...}15.9.x ->16.1.x ->16.2.x all the way up to the most recent version.
Yes. When HPE bought Aruba, the Procurve switches were rebranded as Aruba. There is no distinction in hardware. The Aruba firmware adds a bunch of auto-provisioning and cloud stuff (think Meraki) and improves the GUI. But you can easily turn it off.

There is a firmware UPGRADE procedure doc. It will define the compatible firmware upgrades. Some versions of firmware require upgrades in STEP's. I would look up the UPGRADE path for your switch first. TYpically it is OK to just install the latest... but I alwasys try to take a quick look first.

 Certain versions of firmware have a minimum bootrom version. Take this with a grain of salt but I have never, ever had to roll back HP switch firmware in the 20+ years I have used them. I don't know anyone who has. Somewhere out there will be some people that have run into a case where they had to, but based on my personal experience with dozens of diff models including 2920s, I have never had to. I just did some upgrades for someone on a half dozen 3500yl switches, flawless upgrade as usual. Those also have to be upgraded in steps if you had firmware that was say 10 years old on them to start with.
Do one and let it run, and then the next week proceed with the rest.
I'd be thankful if anyone could clarify this for me. My past experiences with these switches had me convinced that they were basically the same switch with nothing more than different paint jobs and mildly different firmware but I'd be happy to be shown that im wrong
