Collaborative Sunflower Project Unveiled

Howard students, faculty, staff, parents, School Board members, and other members in the community including several Elementary Schools came together to create sunflower drawings as an homage to Vincent Van Gogh. This project was started during the Thanksgiving holiday as the sunflower represented gratitude to Van Gogh. We are thrilled to unveil this beautiful collaboration! Even during a very difficult time in our world we can still be thankful for the good things in our lives and for the beauty around us. We hope you enjoy this artwork and are grateful for our creative community.

Dance Masterclass

The week of November 16th-20th, Emily Cordell led our dance students through a contemporary dance masterclass.

She has been a dance educator throughout the U.S. for over 20 years for private dance studios in FL, OH, and MA, performing arts middle schools in FL and NM, and as Co-Director at Dr. Phillips High School. She also served higher education as an adjunct professor at Valencia College in Orlando, FL and Dean College in Franklin, MA. In addition to teaching Ballet, Pointe, Modern, Contemporary, Improv, Tap and Jazz, Ms Emily is a Module 1 and Module 2 Certified Instructor for Acrobatic Arts.

Ms Emily is an award-winning choreographer who has been celebrated for new works in Florida, New Mexico, Ohio, Massachusetts and Germany. She has been a choreographer in residence for Valencia College and Dr. Phillips High School for over a decade. She enjoys exploring new movement for concert dance and the competition stage. Emily has served as an adjudicator and a judge for a major dance competition for the past five years. She has enjoyed sharing her love of technique and artistry in her critiques with teachers and students all over the country. Thank you Miss Emily for a wonderful week with our students!

Once On This Island, Jr.

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that we will be putting on Once on this Island Jr. this spring! Auditions for our socially-distant production were via a Canvas course module and was open to both face-to-face and LaunchEd students. Rehearsals are happening now and stay tuned for a phenomenal performance April 16 and 17!

VOICE Literary and Art Magazine

We are thrilled to share the Winter 2020 VOICE Literary and Art Magazine with the Howard community! We will be printing this magazine in late January but are publishing this online version now. This was a collaboration between art students and Ms. Hoffman’s Creative Writing class. It will be the 3rd printed issue of VOICE and is called “Breathe.”

We are excited and fortunate to have developed a wonderful partnership with Central Florida Community Arts where Howard students are provided free workshops in various visual and performing arts areas as a way to expand on their artistic education and explore the arts fully!

Storytelling Workshop

Howard students expanded their imagination and explored their creativity by sharing the stories and experiences of their lives. In this workshop they used prompts to help tell classic stories along with both fictional and nonfictional stories.

Music Conducting Workshop

Howard students had an opportunity to learn the basics of conducting! Participants listened to famous musical selections from classical music to movie soundtracks and performed the correlating conducting patterns that guided the piece.

Sketching Workshop

Howard students had an opportunity in December to attend a "Sketching Workshop" where they learned the basics of sketching through the use of simple art techniques and observing the world around them.
