If you are printing a Tungsten Carbide Slide with a laser printer, you need to ensure that you have set up the proper color balance and other factors in order for your laser to read the images properly. If your printer doesn't do this automatically, then there are some simple steps you can take to do this yourself. For instance, if you have set up the correct color balance, then make sure that the paper used has the same color grade as your printer's paper and that it is of the same width. This will give your picture the right color balance and also help your printer read the image properly.
Many people prefer to use Tungsten film for their slide film printing because they don't have to worry about color grade issues or having the right color balance. When using a Tungsten slide film, the pictures will be projected straight onto the piece of film. The colors will pop out at the edges and when you look through the viewfinder, the colors should be more vibrant than they would be printed on your normal paper. There are downsides to Tungsten Slide films however. Because the pictures are printed straight onto the slide, they tend to have a very small edge around the picture as the Tungsten Film bends slightly as it is being applied.
Some photographers prefer to use regular paper when working with Tungsten Slide film. These types of photographers need to have extra care when handling their prints and may not be able to handle the tiny edges around the picture like they can with regular paper. Also, regular paper may not work as well as Tungsten film at controlling brightness. The pictures may appear to be grainy at times. They also tend to have less contrast as the tint of the slide film passes over the picture.
When using regular paper for Tungsten Slide film, you will find that it tends to leave a little more room for error and that you can make more mistakes while working on the photograph. This can be an advantage, but it can also be a disadvantage. If you are going to use regular paper, you may find that you need to clean the slide film after each use or you need to wait for the adhesive on the back to fully dry before you are ready to print. This is not an issue with Tungsten Slide film.
Tungsten Slide film has one more advantage over normal types of color slide films - it has a full color rendition. Normal daytime films tend to have mostly white or gray shades, even when printed straight from computer software. Tungsten Slide films are able to reproduce full color images because of the process used to transfer the color data directly to the film. It is this full color feature that gives Tungsten Slide film such vivid colors.
The last benefit to using Tungsten Slide film is that it does not leave any unwanted spots on the image. Typical color slide films leave small areas of the image that are lighter than the rest of the picture. This is a drawback because it makes pictures look washed out and the picture looks like it has been printed on a colored paper. Tungsten Slide film avoids this problem because the color of the film is consistent all the way through. You get a beautiful image every time without having to worry about a few spots that are a bit darker than the rest of the image. This quality is what sets Tungsten Slide film apart from the rest of the market.
