I have been experiencing same issue since last weeh with my custom digital item where my DIGITAL CUSTOM ORDERS are automatically marked as COMPLETED and DELIVERED on my dashboard, even though they are actually NEW ORDERS that I have not yet fulfilled. I am also unable to close these orders or upload files for my customers, I have to e-mail them.

One of my customers has sent me a screenshot of their dashboard, which shows that they have purchased custom digital item from my shop, but there is no option to download the files because I am not able to close that order and send digital files.

How To Use A Digital Download From Etsy

Has a solution for this issue been found yet? I just had a similar issue where the order went straight to complete and I had no way of uploading the file aside from messaging it directly to them. It's super frustrating and I'm sure confusing for the customer, too.

P.S. Remember to sign up for the free masterclass if you want to get more details on how this entire process works and how to get to that first $1,000 from selling digital products yourself.

Is anyone else having issues with Etsy automatically completing orders that are made to order downloads? As soon as I receive a digital order it's going to my completed orders before I can attach any files and then when I click 'view files' it says in progress. I've been sending the files personally to my customer's email but I'm not sure why this randomly started happening last night without me changing anything.

Instant download digital files transfer immediately when payment is processed, which is why the order shows as completed. If you're manually sending them, you need to list the file as made-to-order. You should check your listings to make sure they are properly classified.

I usually do this for made to order digital downloads: I add a private listing where customers can pay, but I only attach a placeholder photo. After I get the payment, I email the files to the customers. It's just easier for me.

I am also having this problem.. I have a made to order digital download. I have selected the made to order option under digital files. It even tells me that when a digital file is selected as made to order that i have to submit the file after payment in order for the order to be completed... which is perfect, thats exactly what i want to do. However, there seems to be a glitch where the order is automatically completeing. and judging by these comments this has been a glitch for almost two months. which is unacceptable on etsy's part in my opinion. please let me know if anyone has found a fix for this.

All my items are made to order digital, and not having this issue--I do create my listings on the computer and not via the app though--could it be an app create issue. Last night had 7 orders for my made to order digital and none have auto completed.

Yep, just happened to me today, all my digital stuff is made to order, and all have been working fine, allowing me to make then upload. But one today has gone straight to complete without me being given time to make and upload anything.

Mine also started having this issue beginning yesterday. Listing is Made to Order digital item and goes directly to Completed as soon as the order is placed. Disappointed to see others have been experiencing it for quite some time and Etsy still hasn't resolved.

EASY FIX:

1. Go to Shop manager

2. Select Listings

3. Select the listing having the issue

4. Under Core details within the Details section, select the Change button in the Digital File

5. Change from 'Made-to-order' to 2020-2023 then apply and publish

6. Select the same Change button in the Digital File

7. Change it back to Made-to-order', select apply and then publish

I am new on etsy and have never sold digital products. I have received my 2nd order today and I do not know when should I mark this order as complete. It is written " Not Paid" and "Not Downloaded" so please help me let me know what should be my response towards this order? Should I download the files and email on Buyer email?

Hello Everyone, I just started a shop with digital downloads (for now). When I started the shop, I said that I had 1 download to sell, as I thought that made sense for digital downloads... Some one bought one (Yay me!). Then it asked me to renew. I want to have it set up so that many people can download my files without me having to renew everytime there is a purchase. That does not seem very effecient... What am I doing wrong? What do I need to do to improve? Thank you guys in advance for your time and help.

I sell digital downloads and I have my quantity set to 1 and do manual renewal. When it sells or expires I decide whether to renew, tweak the listings, get them more spaced out, etc. Would never let items automatically renew, but that is just the way I prefer to do it.

I put in multiple quantities for my downloads so they keep on renewing and selling 24/7, that way I can sell all around the world, even when I am asleep - it's nice to log on after breakfast and find I've made a sale over night and a new copy is ready to go! To me that is the beauty of digital downloads, once you've created you have the prospect of a passive income for an item at any time or day of the week.

So I have a customer who purchased a digital listing but haven't downloaded yet. Since I have to rearrange my store, the listing will be deactivated or deleted. Will the customer still be able to download files if I deactivate or delete it?

I would think so. There is nothing to prevent us from setting up a digital listing with only one available, and if you do that, then as soon as someone buys it, the listing deactivates as "sold out." I did that a few times early in my time here for custom orders, before I worked out different ways of doing it so I could get paid upfront. Those listings still show in my sold items with a "photo" that is just a generic "reserved" slide. I never had anyone have any trouble downloading their custom item after they bought it.

As Cappuccino says above, yes, the customer will still be able to download it. Etsy keeps the version that each customer buys separate from the sales listing, so that the customer can always have access to the version they bought. What this also means is that if you upgrade or correct your file, past customers will NOT have access to the new file, only the version they purchased.

In some ways, this is logical, because it allows sellers to discontinue selling digital items that no longer are profitable or fit the sellers' directions for their stores. But it would be nice if there was a way for customers to have automatic access to corrected/updated files. Now, a seller would have to contact past customers to let them know and either email them the updated file, or provide a link to a version on DropBox, Google Drive, etc. Once or twice, I've made a correction to a pattern that I thought was significant enough to provide past customers with the updated file, and this turns out to be a fair amount of work, especially since Etsy no longer includes customer email addresses on the Sold Orders listings.

I send a note with all mine and all files are sent via etsy messenger. I have even clicked "tracked-other" and listed as delivered by myself but because there is no tracking number, the system does not mark them as received and as such, lowers the rating in etsy star seller dashboard.

I do the same thing. I sell custom illustrations, so I cannot sell them as a "digital download" because they are custom and I don't want to miss seeing the sale come through.

I have an "expected timeline" for all of my listings. Similar to you guys, I add a note onto my completed order letting them know that I sent them digital files and nothing physical will come in the mail. However, even with all this, my star seller rating is going down for that category.

Yeah, that'd be quite amazing. I've mentioned this a few times in the past, having a shipping by email option for digital made-to-order work, but this new system implementation shows its need all the more.

I'm having the same issue and read this topic for a better solution then mine. Seems everyone solve this like me I choose "other" and typing "Google Drive" to box and to the tracking code i writes "digital" and mailing customer google drive link via email and message. But it doesnt means i loved star seller system. I need photo from customer to make his/her order properly and some customers doesnt send during the process time and they become overdue before i can start.

As far as I know, Etsy isn't letting customers download their digital files through the Etsy App. I assume it has to do with the same legal issue Kindle and other apps had with in app purchases a few months ago. If they had in app purchases, they would then be required by Google Play Store rules to hand over some of the profits. I could be wrong about this, but that isn't my issue.

My issue is that I sell digital crochet patterns. I kid you not, the last 4 sales I made, every customer contacted me saying they couldn't find the download link. And every one of them showed me a screen shot of their purchase inside the Etsy App. What I find so frustrating is that Etsy IS NOT TELLING these people that they can't download the files with the app. They think there is something physically wrong with the website. Half these people have straight up told me to "fix" the issue, or they ask for a refund.

I even had a customer that I tried to explain the situation to. I told them files can't be downloaded through the app. She told me "I don't like YOUR policy, I have downloaded files before with no problems. I want a REFUND NOW" She only relented and understood the situation after I showed a screenshot directly from Etsy's support page that says files can't be downloaded from the app. Only then did she realize this is not "my policy" but Ety's policy.

I don't see how this can keep going on. It is really affecting how customers see Etsy as a whole and it is making digital items a true pain to obtain from a customer's standpoint. Am I the only person who has this issue? Would anyone like to share how they deal with this? I have seen some digital sellers place photos explaining this information into their listings. Maybe I need to start doing that as well, since Etsy doesn't seem to be doing anything about it. ff782bc1db
