Inductive Bible study uses the Bible itself as the primary source of information about the Bible. In inductive study you personally explore the Scriptures apart from conclusions Bible scholars and other people have drawn from their study of the Word. Though their labors are valuable, research has shown time and time again that people learn more and remember better when they enter into the process of discovery for themselves. Before we can talk about the how to of the inductive Bible study method, we must first define what it is. At its simplest, inductive Bible study is a simple and effective step-by-step approach to interpreting and studying the Bible. It is time tested and generally regarded by Bible-believing Christians to be the best way to study Scripture. The goal is to walk you through the steps of reading and interpreting Scripture to applying it to your life.

In the inductive Bible study method, one thing that gets talked about a lot is writing in and marking up your Bible. This step helps you visualize the observations you make as you engage with the text. If you search the Internet for ways to mark up your Bible, there is no end to the systems and information you will find.

A good part of the inductive Bible study method is making observations so you can interpret and make application. This step includes marking up your Bible so you can visualize those observations. What makes this edition of the ESV Journaling New Testament great is that it uses a single-column paragraph format with 3/8-inch space in between each line of Bible text. This format gives you ample room to mark up the text and make notes without feeling cluttered or having to squeeze it between lines of text. The wide margins also make it easier to jot longer notes in the margin.

When it comes to studying your Bible you want to read with a pen in hand so that you can take notes. You want to be able to keep track of what you are learning, questions that you have, and things you want to study more in-depth.

The OT is a great place to start because it tells the beginning of the gospel story. The accounts and biblical principles found in Genesis are key to your faith. Taking the time to dig into the first few books of the bible will give you a great foundation for further study. I would start with Genesis and Exodus then maybe Joshua. If you are new to the bible save Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy for after you build up some confidence in your study skills.

Instead of skipping over what you missed, simply pick up where you left off. If you left off in your 7-week study on week 3, and this study is over, then just start where you left off and work forward.
