I use zoom for teaching and use annotation every session. Or at least I was able to annotate until 2 days ago, when I got the latest update. Now I have no annotation, but I have an AI feature that is completely useless to me

@Bort This is a major draw back. Many schools are using Chromebooks and use zoom to present and share classwork. The new Zoom for Chromebooks lacks annotation options, which are the most commonly used functionality for teachers. My daughter is using zoom on a chromebook form her math classes and teacher is using the annotation tool to get kids engaged. Now that Zoom for android is not longer supported on Chromebooks, zoom as a teaching tool has become useless for so many kids that have Chromebooks provided by school. Such a disappointment.

But not everyone has Google Play on their Chromebook, so the second method is installing the Zoom for Chrome PWA website as a web app. You can do this by going to pwa.zoom.us in the Chrome browser and clicking on the option to install. This will make it appear as an icon on your Chromebook. But if you don't have that option, you'll have to create the shortcut manually.

We have some 7th grade students that are creating their own zoom session with their school Google account and inviting other students in their grade. They are doing this on a school-owned chromebook. Is there a way to stop or block this from happening? Thank you!

The video shows student practicing three ways to zoom and magnify on a Chromebook. At the end of video, I share her answers about when she thinks she would use each method. She had a worksheet to write her answers on; in video, I just show example of filling in worksheet. See attached Chromebook 3 Ways to Zoom Worksheet here.

Web page zoom with control-plus/minus/0 and screen resolution zoom with control-shift-plus/minus/0. Web page zoom enlarges everything in web page. Screen resolution zoom enlarges whole Chromebook screen including mouse pointer, tabs, shelf icons at bottom, and status tray in bottom right.

My son's HP Chromebook from school has 2 accounts. The one he's supposed to use goes to a massively magnified screen, the only time I see anything is when I move the cursor to the upper left corner of the screen, where the cursor fills half of it.

I need to send an email to my clients to open a zoom meeting. Currently I am sending [meetingID]&un=[base64EncodedUsername] but when some clients open this link on a iPhone or Android, it opens Zoom in the browser rather than the app, then they cannot connect to the video. Is there a way to modify this URL or otherwise force a meeting ID to open in their Zoom app rather than a browser?

Recent iPad (and some iPhone) devices running iOs 13 are set to request the desktop site by default which causes javascript OS detection to return MacOS instead of iOs which then presents the zoommtg link to the client. If the client manually edits this link to the zoomus link, it works on their iPad. Here is one reference but there are others. We tried other browser detection methods to detect that the device is an iPad running the Zoom mobile app version, but none worked reliably - -Detect/issues/795

We have several schools that purchased HP 16W64UT Chromebook 11 G8s with AMD A4 9120C CPUs reporting serious performance issues, which we have been able to consistently replicate. We also got our hands on a Lenovo 100e 82CD0000US model with the same processor and are seeing the same problems. Very choppy video and intermittent loss of audio - in all video conf platforms - which gets progressively worse as the number of meeting participants increases.

Usually not a good sign when you can find a massive amount of negative feedback in terms of performance with Zoom on Chromebooks. Are you using the application from the Chrome Store or the web-based client? It wouldn't hurt to try running the other to see if it helps with resource use. -to-use-zoom-on-a-chromebook/ Opens a new window

The Zoom app for Chromebook isn't very good, and we require the students to use SSO (Single Sign On), to eliminate Zoom bombing. We've had so much trouble with the Zoom app, that we now tell students to use the web browser version of Zoom instead by going to Https:// (domain name) .zoom.us

It certainly is not a good sign. Unfortunately, with these Chromebooks the only option for Zoom is the extension and the browser. The browser is horrible! It looks like the issue is specifically with these AMD A4 cpu's. We have other Chromebooks out there with different cpu's that work fine. Others have suggested turning off some flags but we didn't see any improvements. There is a posting on reddit also where others are having the same issue with this AMD A4 cpu: _meet_issue_with_amd_chromebook/ Opens a new window

Thanks Bob - LA. It looks like others are seeing similar issues with this AMD A4 cpu and Zoom. There is a post on reddit of people complaining of the same thing. ( _meet_issue_with_amd_chromebook/ Opens a new window).

If you use video meetings at school or work, there's a good chance you now use Zoom. Both Windows and macOS have reliable Zoom apps that include all the software's available features. But if you own a Chromebook, you'll have to use a Progressive Web App (PWA). This is because the once popular Zoom Chrome app in the Chrome Web Store has officially been discontinued.

Overall, it seems that Zoom did an excellent job developing its new Chrome PWA. Developed in partnership with Google, the UI is slick, and the app runs quite smoothly. If you want to use the PWA on another platform, you can also do this quite easily by visiting zoom.pwa.us in any browser.

This means that the Chromebook is overheating. Please note that Chromebooks were not originally designed for long term teleconferencing use, so internally they can get too warm (even in cold/rainy weather) and shutting down programs (such as a zoom meeting), or completely shutting down entirely is the Chromebooks way to cool down. Warm Chromebooks can also cause Zoom video lag even with fast internet connections.

Back-end security settings are often enabled to prevent "non" District87 students and users from accessing ZOOM meetings. By providing each student with the ability to "sign in," we can verify that they are using appropriate school accounts and can be trusted to admit into meetings.

If you post a link in chat, the link will not be clickable on chromebooks. This is a major issue in my opinion. It is hard for young students and students with disabilities to copy it, open a new window, and paste. This should be an easy fix!!! It is very frustrating as a teacher.

Can I get a loaner without an id? When do loaners need to be returned? Will I get fined?

A Student ID must be present when obtaining a loaner Chromebook or you will have to have proof from a teacher. Loaners must be taken care of and be returned at the end of the day to the CCC (HS/MS) or to teacher (ES). If not returned, another loaner chromebook will not be provided until the original chromebook is returned. Fees will be charged if it is not brought back for certain amount of days.

I don't have my child/student's login information to log into the my child's chromebook.

Parents will need to get login information from their child or have the child log in for them. If the child cannot log in - such as they forgot password, please contact the Help Desk. We are not able to give out login information or change student password on parent's request.

Recently discovered glitch: If you are trying to close your current Zoom meeting and clicking the "X" in the upper-right corner of the Zoom app and it's not closing; you can right-click on the Zoom icon in the taskbar (Blue circle with white camera), and then select the "Close" option. This will successfully close the Zoom app. Currently unsure of when this glitch will be fixed. If you are having zoom issues, please watch this video.

If restarting doesn't help, then go to your nearest RSD school. You should be able to connect to the Renton Wireless network from the parking lot. Restart your computer and try to log in again while connected to the school's WiFi.
