I know the big complaint about sideswipe is about the noise while at cruising or wakeboard speed. So does the regular transom exhaust actually have another muffler in there or is the added noise simply from the exhaust sound resonating back into the cabin from the water along the side of the boat? Just trying to figure out the easiest and most cost effective way of quieting down a sideswipe if it comes to that and I've never seen a sideswipe and normal exhaust boat side by side to compare. If the only real difference is the outlet location, and the added parts for the sideswipe, changing it over to a single large outlet, like some enzos, at the transom should be relatively easy and cheap, shouldnt it?

I just got my boat today and plan to run it tomorrow. It has transome dual exhaust(merc) it's a sv230. I just last week sold my avy with same engine and sideswipes. So I will know soon the difference. I will say I love sideswipe for around the dock. Annoying as hell after 16mph.

I don't know if thats the plan for sure. I haven't even bought the boat yet. Just trying to get this all straightened out ahead of time. I've came across a few other boats that i've considered but i keep coming back to this one. Its very close to what i want, i just don't like the tower (could be worse though) and i'm unsure about the sideswipe. Test driving is not an option so i'm trying to cover my butt in case i hate it.

i was thinking a single 5" should work, alot of people shut off the sideswipe on one side while cruising or wakeboarding anyway which turns it into a single 4". My inlaws own a fiberglass shop so that part of a conversion (cutting holes, filling others) isnt a big deal but i'm more worried about parts. I know its been done before but i havent found anything written by someone who actually did it on HOW they did it. I've found a few threads from guys installing small inline silencers, without much luck, or the newer style exhaust tips.

First, when not under way and at idle, sideswipe is level or slightly above water meaning that there is no water to muffle the sound. On a rear transom exhaust, the exhaust is under water thereby muffling the sound. There really is not comparision at idle, the sideswipe is significantly louder and we really got tired of it and it was one of the reason we sold and got another transom exhuast centurion, lets not talk about the wife wanting bigger:)

While underway sideswipe is only marginally louder and i really can't give you a reason why other than maybe it is because the sound is closer to the cockpit, there may be more/better baffling on a traidiontal exhuast system, but i don't know the answer to that, maybe someone else can weigh in on whether the baffling/muffling is the same between two systems.

Here is another option for the sideswipe. I had an 07 Enzo with sideswipe and was going to do this mod until I just ended up selling it and getting a '14. You can order a welded baffle from Fineline and replace the "flapper style." From what I understand, it does reduce the noise noticeably and is probably cheaper than rerouting the exhaust to the transom. Check out this thread: -baffles-to-reduce-sideswipe-noise/?hl=%2Bsideswipe+%2Bbaffle#entry53337

Cost of parts was about $900-$1000. I had the install done by a dealer of high performance boats in Bellevue Wa who is now out of business. It is hard to take the old sideswipe holes out. I bought gel color from Fineline and had them fiberglassed but I wanted them perfect. Consider leaving them in and getting the plugs I spoke of in my write up. You will not be able to put home made parts on you need to buy the factory ones. It did work perfectly. If you would like you can PM me. What you probably could do is call Shell at fineline and just have her duplicate my order for you. This is assuming you have the Black Scorpion 330hp motor. Mine was a 2008 SV240.

Additionally as far as parts go the factory Centurion Centek muffler was needed along with the hoses that go to the top of the motor and attach to the top side of the muffler and the elbow hoses that attach to the bottom end of the muffler and then route into the bell housing that leads out to the flappers. This along with a multitude of very large hose clamps. It was Lowes or Home Depot that had the caps to cap off the sideswipe holes but again I went the fiberglassing route.

Just wondering, is there no way to make the normal muffler work with the sideswipe? From what i've seen and the pics i took there looks to be alot of room back there. Atleast that way you'd have the benefit of sideswipe but not so much of the noise.

I don't think your back pressure test is important. Exhaust risers are just about the most restrictive thing a small block Chevrolet can have bolted to it for exhaust flow. I bet you would be ok. Also my sideswipes when switched to one side still allow some gasses to pass through.

Many sideswipe accidents lead to a loss of control and subsequent accidents, causing severe injuries and tragic outcomes like hospitalization or even death. A car accident lawyer with experience handling sideswipe car accident cases can review your claim and help you include every damage available to you.

After a sideswipe, the second driver can react by turning their wheel quickly to swerve away from the first driver. This can result in hitting other vehicles, objects, or pedestrians, moving into oncoming traffic, or the car rolling over. These actions can cause serious or fatal injuries and damage.

Legally, victims of a sideswipe accident have the same rights as other car accident victims. However, these cases present some legal challenges that may make them harder to approve. These challenges determine how an experienced attorney will approach a sideswipe car accident case.

Proving that the first driver initially caused the accident can be difficult, especially if they deny responsibility, hit and run, or if the insurance company tries to say the second driver is partly to blame. In the state of Georgia, a victim of a sideswipe accident can recover money only if they were less than 50% at fault under OCGA 51-12-33.

If the victim believes they were not at fault in any way, proving it can be difficult without legal representation. This is why the victim of a car accident caused by a sideswipe needs to work with a car accident attorney experienced in this type of claim. They will look at the facts and pursue a settlement that is fair to you, not just what the insurer is offering.

Individuals involved in sideswipe collisions can suffer numerous injuries. Quite often, the size of the vehicle and the speeds in which they are traveling often influence the severity of the injuries sustained by drivers.

Injuries in sideswipe collisions can range from minor scrapes and abrasions to serious injuries or death. Even the smallest sideswipe accident can cause serious injuries, which is why it is crucial to be extremely careful while behind the wheel of a vehicle.

Some of the most common injuries individuals involved in T-bone accidents sustain are:

People hear the term sideswipe collision and picture a relatively minor accident. In reality, much of the time, a sideswipe is anything but inconsequential. Sideswipes can cause significant property damage, of course. But worse, they can cause either driver to lose control, leading to secondary collisions, rollovers, and similar catastrophic events. Make no mistake: sideswipe collisions can leave drivers and their passengers with severe or fatal injuries.

A sideswipe collision is any collision between two vehicles in which the point of impact is on the side of both vehicles throughout the collision. In that sense, sideswipe accidents differ from angular or T-bone collisions, when the front of one vehicle collides with the side of another. Other terms for sideswipe might include side-on-side, or door-on-door, in other words.

A more scientific way of saying this is that a sideswipe collision is a vehicle crash with a non-zero final relative tangential velocity. The vehicles continue to slide relative to each other (along the contact surface) throughout the entire duration of contact.

Sideswipe collisions distinguish themselves from other Florida auto accidents because the initial impact in a sideswipe collision tends to have less force behind it than others, such as rear-end, head-on, or T-bone collisions. This is why many people picture a sideswipe collision and associate it with cosmetic damage to vehicles, but not necessarily trauma to drivers and passengers. For instance, you might picture a scenario in which the driver-side mirrors two cars passing in opposite directions on a narrow road clip each other.

Yet, while sideswipe collisions do have relatively less force associated with the initial impact, their consequences can be no less deadly than any other accidents. Drivers often lose control of their vehicles after a sideswipe accident, with catastrophic consequences.

According to the Insurance Information Institute, roughly seven percent of all fatal vehicle-on-vehicle collisions (and nearly three percent of all fatal accidents, no matter how many vehicles were involved) are sideswipe accidents. That may not seem like a lot until you realize it accounts for just shy of 1,000 fatal accidents yearly.

Many of these accidents occur between vehicles of different sizes. As this Federal Highway Administration study reflects, for instance, car-and-truck sideswipe accidents commonly occur in the lane-change scenario above because trucks have large blind spots where cars can inadvertently hide, leading to an accident when the truck driver changes lanes.

No matter how a sideswipe collision develops, the speed at which it occurs can play a significant role in how badly hurt it leaves the drivers and passengers involved. Generally, the higher the speeds, the greater the possibility of a secondary accident that causes catastrophic damage and fatal injury. However, this is not to say that people can always walk away from a low-speed sideswipe accident. There is an extremely high risk of someone getting badly hurt whenever two cars collide. ff782bc1db
