Recently I've been experiencing an issue where I'll either a) purchase music from iTunes or b) add music from CD's I purchased, and when I sync music to my iPhone, it will apparently store this music in the cloud, so I have to stream it when I want to listen to it.

I have yet to see a straight forward answer to this problem. I have the same issue with itunes loading my music into the cloud and having to download it to my ipod. I simply want ALL my music on my computer and when I sync to my ipod, I want ALL my music on my ipod,..NOT in the bloody cloud! Does anyone know how to completely shutdown the cloud so that people can have access to their music directly from their ipod or iphone?

Assuming you are syncing music via iTunes, you can turn off the ability to see tracks that are not actually downloaded: Settings app > Music > iCloud Music Library (turn OFF). In addition, any of these tracks you see "in the cloud" can also be downloaded to play rather than streamed. iTunes purchased tracks will always appear if the view is turned on; ripped and other tracks will only upload if you have turned the feature on in iTunes on your computer.

Did you not read that I said my phone won't let me download them? And I purchased this music! I don't want to just ignore it by turning off the ability to see it--I want it stored in my phone's memory, NOT in the cloud.

So basically, you're telling me if I purchase music or iTunes identified it, it's going to be stored in the cloud and there's no way to change that???? And I just have to ignore it when I'm in an area with no data or cellular signal?? What a waste of money.

I used to keep all my music on my phone until I updated to iOS 8.1. Never had this problem until then. And now it randomly selects songs to store in the cloud and won't let me play them! What's up with that? Surely, there is a way to put it back in my phone's memory permanently. Btw, I purchased these songs on my computer iTunes, then synced them to my phone. And I do have cellular enabled for music.

Okay, I get you have to download them initially. But sometimes I will sync music stored on my computer, only to find out it didn't put it on my phone or removed it from my phone and put it in the cloud.

"What other issues?" Well like someone else discussed in an earlier in this thread "You will only we able to download via WiFi unless you have the Music app set to use cellular (Settings App > Cellular > Music)." So unless I'm mistaken you can't buy new tracks it cellular data is disabled for the music app. And if it's enabled that's when it decides to download [or stream] tracks in your cloud but not on your phone.

No not necessarily. If you toggle the option within the Music app to only show you "Only Downloaded Music" then there's no way this will happen, see the second paragraph of my post above. Hiding iCloud music in this manner will prevent you from inadvertently tapping on them to start the streaming, so there's no way for this to happen.

This is happening to me too. Last week my phone was sending my parents straight to VM, and this evening my best friend. My phone never rings and I only see the missed call when I get their texts asking me to call them back. The issue is intermittent, but frequent. Silence unknown callers is off.

My iphone doesn't always accept calls or send texts if it's to another phone that's not apple (Iphone). The call will go straight to voicemail. Many of these calls are in my contacts too! Is this ever going to get fixed?

I had this problem come up out of seemingly nowhere last week. Every call popped up for a half second with no ring or vibration and straight to VM. I had weird things like this years ago with a Samsung phone and remembered they were caused by an app. So I removed the last app I installed, which was right before this started happening, and it fixed it. What was the app? Rush Bowls, a smoothie/health food eatery. How that was affecting incoming calls, I have no idea.

WatchOS has progressively gotten worse in being easy and obvious to play music from the watch, if you try to start it while it is in range of your phone. It defaults to try and start music by controlling the phone. I got used to it but it was always annoying.

Here are the steps I have to do to start my music. The music.app is a complication on my main watch face specifically so I can easily start music before a run. (This assumes that I am in range of my phone when I want to start the music which I always am at the beginning of my run and have played music on my phone since the last time I played it on my watch, which will always be the case)

Not rare. It's just really difficult for a community of people dealing with crappy new watch functionality to come together quickly. I'm having the EXACT same problem on my Apple Watch. If I ever needed an excuse to not go for a run now, it's my Apple Watch and the ten minutes I spend before every run battling its desire to play music on my iPhone (BTW, out of all the features on my Apple Watch, the thing I least need to do is use it to control the music on the phone that's literally in my other hand). And there's no easy nor obvious way to switch it back to my BT earphones (which are already paired. Have already been unpaired and re-paired. So don't send me that link, please.).

I have precisely the same problem! It is SO ANNOYING. I have found that I need to power down my iPhone before selecting the music to play on my Watch and that stops the phone from being in the loop. I wish I could go back to previous Watch OS.

I agree with the OP. Whatever they changed. It's unintuitive. My scenario is I like to play a downloaded playlist while I run. Since IOS 10, about half the time I leave my house for a run the music cuts off in the first minute because it's playing from the internet instead of from my downloaded music and I've run out of my WiFi range. I never had this issue before IOS 10.

You misunderstood. That's exactly what I'm trying to do, play music on the watch by starting it from the watch. I've been doing it since the second gen apple watch. However ever since WatchOS10, it actually starts playing on my phone unless I jump through the hoops on the watch using the steps I listed above.

I just confirmed this (at least the first part). When music is successfully playing on my watch to my non-apple BT headphones, and I hit pause (which I pretty much never do because I use this while running), the instant I hit pause the little icon in the upper right corner of the play screen on the watch switches from showing the three dots with the BT icon, meaning it is playing audio to my headphones from the watch, to the three dots with the little phone icon, meaning it is now controlling my phone. And this means if you do pause from either the screen or your headset, you can't just unpause, you need to go back into the airplay settings described in my first post to restart the music.

Yep, as I discovered recently, everything works as it used to if your watch is not in contact with your phone but if it is, the watch wants to control the phone, and the UI makes it very annoying to actually start music from the watch on the watch.

Instead of playing music from your iPhone and using AirPlay to send it to your Apple Watch, you can try to start the music directly from your Apple Watch. You can also add a widget for the Music app in Smart Stacks. Lastly you can have a playlist start when starting a work out. Checkout these resources and YouTube videos from Apple Support for more information:

I am also having the same problem. My phone was totally fine one minute, and all of the sudden it is going straight to voicemail. I have restarted my phone, ensured that do not disturb is not on, and checked all of the tips above. Still calls do not come through. I also use my cell for work, and this isn't ok.

Your own CD tracks etc. are synced with you iCloud Music Library. Where is your local iTunes music library? On a Mac or PC? If you are only streaming, then no, you can't stream your own music. Nothing to do with illegal downloads.

One of the best features of Galaxy is it allows you to choose and download any song you can find out there to apply as ringtone. Apple products suck in that they make you have to spend even more money on THEIR music to do that.

Apple is notoriously complicated in attempting to walk a straight line! LOL. I am seeking a way to download personal songs onto my iPhone so I can walk around without Wi-Fi or a cellular connection to hear them. In simple to follow steps, how does one prepare the songs, where should I put them to get them over to my iPhone, and what permissions, etc, do I need to do so? Thank you to all! 0852c4b9a8
