Today I went to the official Apple Store in Mexico City. My iPhone has been having the unresponsive touch screen issue. They said that the only solution offered by Apple is to replace the entire phone, which is fine with me. However, I need to have a backup of my WhatsApp chats.

I asked the Apple guy if I would be able to restore my messages from an iTunes backup. He said "absolutely not" and that WhatsApp messages can only be restored from an iCloud backup. I got home and decided to Google it. According to the WhatsApp website, you CAN restore your WhatsApp chats by using iTunes.

So my question is, was the guy at the Apple store misinformed? Or is the information on the WhatsApp website incorrect? I need a STRAIGHT answer, lol. Has anyone here ever tried restoring their WhatsApp chats using iTunes?? If so, how did it go?

New iphone user here. Just got a 15 pro max and was consistently getting this error for 2-3 times after factory resetting the phone several times . It was so important to transfer years of my android whatsapp chat history and not being able to do this made me think of returning iphone and continue using android. After I did a restart as mentioned, the issue was fixed and all my chat history was transferred. Thankyou so much for sharing this quick fix.

Facing the exact same issue... contacted whatsapp support and they asked me to get in touch with apple support. Its really frustrating as to why everything works well and takes hours together but the last step of moving chat history gets stuck at 40! Kindly provide a solution that works!!!

I too had the same problem, It was struck at 40%. I have updated Iphone 14pro to the latest version i.e. 16.5.1 and reset the iphone. Tried the same process Move to IOS on my Android phone, and this time it worked. Got all WhatsApp data to the iPhone.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with overcoming the WhatsApp chat import issue! Your tip about restarting the iPhone turned out to be a lifesaver for me. I was stuck at the 40% mark with the "unknown error" message and couldn't figure out what to do. After reading your message, I decided to give the restart a shot, and it worked like a charm!

Something went wrong while my iphone was moving chat from android after restarting a reset iphone. It happened at 38% importing progress. Is there any solution to this? Plenty of battery on both devices which were on same 5G wifi. I have been trying the migration for the last 2 years. it never works. It is the closest I could get. Before it had no clue to look for the WhatsApp database. This is very frustrating and I have been carrying an Android phone for Whatsapp in addition to the new iphone for 2 years.

Did you get any help on this? I also have the same issue, stuck at 40%...... reset a few times and spent hours trying to transfer WhatsApp chat history from android to iPhone and failed repeatedly. Raised with Apple support and awaiting feedback

Are you talking about the same error that we faced during whatsapp chat imports? How did you workaround with that error? What next steps did you follow to fully transfer your chats? Any help around this issue is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Just got the iphone 12 and i have a group of 8 ppl in a message. I realized that some messages are not showing up in the chat. I only know this because some are emphazing or laughing at a message that i dont even see??? It might be a non iphone use but im not sure. I have all the mms n sms on. I looked farther up the group chat to look for the messages being emphazied but cant find them?

I am also having this issue. In fact.. when I google this TONS of people are having this issue that upgraded to an iPhone 12. I upgraded to an iphone 12 pro just the other day and instantly quit receiving texts from many android users. I have verizon myself, but a quick 10 sec google search shows the carrier doesn't matter. T-mobile, att and verizon all have users on iPhone 12 that are having this issue and most state the issue started the moment they upgraded.

I've been having the same issue since I got my iphone 12, seems to be groups that have at least one android phone in it. I missed a text this morning about a relative passing....SMH. Is there a solution?

I contacted Apple support via chat and they were adamant that this is an issue with all of the carriers... I am on AT&T, my buddy is on Verizon, and folks on this thread are on T-Mobile. It would be surprised if it was not an Apple issue. I have officially switched away from using messages at this point. Super frustrating... come on Apple, help us out!

Hi I recently upgraded to Iphone 14 pro and now I cannot send pictures or group chat with anyone with an Android. I have verified MMS is on & Group Messages . I have reset messenger , I have reset network settings , I have reset phone a couple of times . Anyone find a fix for this would be greatly appreciated

Anyhow, I've got a few iphone users that are not receiving notifications at all for chats. I just spent 20 mins troubleshooting with one that's got the gmail app and the Chat app installed and she's getting nothing. Not red bubble, no push notification, nothing. I've read Google's instructions, searched thru subs, checked background permissions, reinstalled the app, and can't find anything wrong with her settings. The only thing I can think of is if another device is picking up those chats so her phone won't, but we logged out of everything, sent a test, still nothing.

No, you can't save it on an Android or an iOS - iPhone or iPad. I have asked the meeting host to please send me the text file. When there have been links provided in the chat, you can copy them and paste them into your Notepad. Or click on the link and have it open in a new window. I hope they will upgrade the apps to allow us to save the chats.

In 2024, we could start to use MMS a lot less. Apple pledged to support the RCS standard next year, which could mean that group texting between the iPhone and Android phones will improve with features such as muting, leaving a conversation and end-to-end encryption. But until then, here are the steps to leave any conversation from your phone's native texting app, regardless of whether it's happening on iMessage, RCS or as a mixed MMS chat.

You can leave group conversations on your iPhone in two ways. You can either mute a chat, which keeps you in a conversation but you no longer have to receive notifications about it, or you can outright leave and no longer have access to the chat.

On an iPhone, open Messages and go to the chat thread you want to leave. At the top of the screen are conversation controls, a group of icons with the participants. Tap this to open a pop-up menu. As long as your conversation has four or more participants, iOS gives you the ability to tap Leave this Conversation with red text. If your chat has three or fewer participants though, the option is grayed out, but you can tap Hide Alerts to prevent the conversation from notifying you further. Tapping Hide Alerts also allows you to mute a conversation, letting you keep access to a chat without necessarily leaving it.

Even though you can't officially leave MMS group chats, you can hide or block the conversation. It's not as good as outright leaving a conversation (other participants will still see you as in it), but you at least have no personal evidence of the conversation continuing.

On an iPhone, visit the group chat and tap the conversation controls. Instead of seeing Leave this conversation, you will see the option to Delete and Block this conversation. And if you'd rather just mute the conversation instead of deleting and blocking, you can hit Hide Alerts to mute it.

On an Android phone using Google Messages, visit the chat thread you want to leave. Tap the conversation's name to bring up the Group Details menu. At the bottom of the screen tap the Leave Group button. Unlike with iMessage, you can leave chats with as few as three participants.

If you want to just mute notifications, tap Notifications on the Group Details screen to bring up a window with notifications controls. This includes options to make the conversation stay Silent to prevent it from ringing your chat, and if you tap Lock Screen, a pop-up menu will give you the option to prevent notifications. Tap Don't show notifications at all to enable.

On an Android phone with Google Messages, follow the same steps to access options for controlling notifications. This includes visiting the MMS chat thread, then tapping either the name of conversation or the names of the participants at the top to bring up the Group Details menu. You won't see a Leave Group option like you did with an RCS thread. But you do get the same ability to tap Notifications to access controls for hiding the conversation from view. This includes the same options for turning the conversation to Silent and to select Don't show notifications at all.

SMS stands for Short Message Service and debuted in 1992. Text messages are limited to 160 characters. MMS stands for Multimedia Messaging Service and supports sending photos, videos, or other files and messages longer than 160 characters. MMS supports a group of people chatting in a single conversation thread, while SMS can text multiple people at once but is sent as individual messages to each person. RCS, which launched 15 years ago, is short for Rich Communication Services and can show typing indicators, read receipts and has end-to-end encryption.

While cross-platform chat apps like WhatsApp, Signal and Telegram have better controls for conversations, encryption and privacy, regardless of the type of phone participants are using, they don't support SMS, MMS or RCS. And that's why the default messaging app on most phones is still widely used even if it means that a group chat is on a less feature-filled, unsecured standard like MMS. e24fc04721
