I think Duolingo may have just become useless to me? I've studied a couple of languages extensively and use Duolingo primarily as a practice tool for Spanish, French, and Russian when I'm not actively taking classes or part of a speaking club. Yesterday's update to the Spanish and French courses does not allow any testing out on the new lessons. No little key. I usually use desktop but I checked the app (iOS) as well. Still no little key.

I just received the results of my duolingo english test, I read plenty of reddit posts about how easily the test wouldn't get certified, that it was a scam, etc... so I thought of writting a post myself with my quite positive experience!

I wouldn't say I was prepared at all to do the exam. I did one practice test two moths ago and another one 1 week before the actual exam, on both of them I got 115-130 . I wouldn't say I'm too confident on my english either, my writting is okay but I speak really weird and I have a lot of strange mannerism that come from my native language, but I do think I can put the little "bilingual" pin on my favorite jacket, nowadays I speak more english than my actual mother tongue.

The test itself was a little bit of a mess, I accidentally skipped one "read this sentence out loud"; in some of the "describe the picture" I barely wrote anything, I kept going back and forth with what would be the best answer; I mega cooked it on the last "talk about this topic" thingy (the one they send to the universities), I generally can't keep a straight train of thought when I'm talking and I was just all over the place, at some point I remember saying "okay, I'm going to start again" and so I did, I started speaking right from the beginning, everything is recorded and I'm deeply embarrassed.

I talked to myself out loud in english during to whole test, I tend to do this on a daily basis, it helps me concentrate. It might have been one of the reasons I got it certified because god... I was using my friends mac since my laptop doesn't have a camera and I have no idea how anything created by apple works. I thought I closed all the programs but at least spotify, mozilla and chorme were running in the background (my friend told me about it when he came back home), I also kept looking up during the speaking part multiple times (at least 4), I did correct it as soon as I noticed, but still... I thought I would have to do the test again but, here I am! I got it certified :)

Please be aware that the Institutional TOEFL is a standardized exam. This means that each section of the exam - listening, structure, and reading - has time limits set by the testing company, Educational Testing Service (ETS). These time limits will not change. The listening section is on a CD and runs about 35 minutes for 50 questions, the structure section is 40 questions in 25 minutes, and the reading portion is 50 questions in 55 minutes.

Undocumented or DACA-eligible students are not required to submit results of English Language proficiency testing.

You may receive certified results for up to two tests in a 30-day period, which starts on the completion date of your first certified test. If you complete a test and your results are not certified, it will not count against this limit.

If your results were not certified, and you did not receive notice that your account was blocked, you can retake the test within 30 days of your original purchase date. However, please review and keep in mind the reason(s) why your results were not certified before retaking the test.

The IELTS Academic test is administered by Cambridge ESOL, British Council, and IDP: IELTS Australia. See www.ielts.org for more information. The Duke University Graduate School is registered to receive electronic IELTS scores using the IELTS Results Service E-Delivery. Please send scores via e-delivery by selecting the "Duke University Graduate School" option.

If you do not see an option for electronic scores when using "Duke University Graduate School " as the Institution on the request form, try using "Duke University" as the Institution and "Graduate School" for the Department. The process for selecting e-delivery recipients may be slightly different depending on the organization administering the IELTS test. Please refer to the IELTS website for information regarding testing policies.

We do not accept results from the IELTS Indicator, the TOEFL ITP Plus for China, TOEFL Essentials, or the PTE Academic Online. We also do not accept TOEFL iBT "My Best" scores or IELTS One Skill Retake. If you took the TOEFL iBT or IELTS, please send us your result from the test wherein you received the highest composite score.

Additional exams may be added at a later time. Please refer to our English Language policy before applying and/or taking any exams to ensure your test scores will satisfy our application requirements.

If you are unable to submit official results for any test except the Duolingo English Test, you can alternatively self-report unofficial results or upload unofficial test result documents to your portal after you apply (for admissions review purposes only).

International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

ASU accepts IELTS Academic, IELTS Online, IELTS UKVI and IELTS Indicator exams.

Overall band score on the academic test of at least 6.5. The general training exam is not accepted. No institutional code is needed.
