Over the years, I have run into issues uninstalling cpu-z -- at times it did not properly (completely) uninstall itself (driver would still load). So I stopped using it many years ago. I also suspected it as being problematic in that whatever driver it left behind, an issue in the system would be remedied if I configured (using autoruns) it not to start up.

I recently saw this article from MalwareBytes saying one version of it was a Trojan. They did not indicate if they believed the application was a tampered version or if came from cpuid.com. That article is dated April, 2018 and can be found here:

Over the last several months I have filled the contact form on cpuid ( ) and asked them about this malware bytes link and they have never replied to me. No denial. No nothing. This further erodes my trust in cpuid.com.

I am not looking for help. I am just asking about the reputation of cpu-z and why malware bytes reported this and what experiences cpu-z users on bleeping have with this. Twice I contacted cpuid using the contact form I linked you above and both times they ignored me. Why don't you post a question about the malware bytes link on their contact form and see if they respond to you.

Yes, cpu supports AVX.

The problem that some old systems don't support AVX registers.

So we need some way to detect that OS supports AVX.

7-Zip checks also OSXSAVE bit in cpuid and calls xgetbv. Maybe it's enough to detect AVX support.

But I supposed that PF_AVX_INSTRUCTIONS_AVAILABLE is also must be supported.

Maybe we can work without PF_AVX_INSTRUCTIONS_AVAILABLE checks. But I'm not sure. ff782bc1db
