I've been playing around with different login forms online lately to see how they work. One of them was the Facebook login form. When I logged out of my account my email and password were autocompleted by my browser. Then I decided to misspell my email and see what would happen if I tried to log in.

They might have decided that usability is of utter importance and, if there is a log in attempt for an email address for which there is not an account, automatically attempt the log in with the most similar username, but -while not completely bad- it doesn't seem a good approach, as someone else could sign up tomorrow with the [email protected] email and, although unlikely, also use Password123 as password, then what?

If you consider the login process as a whole, this measure can actually increase security. Instead of granting users several login attempts to manually fix common misspellings, the site tries to fix those misspellings automatically. As a result, the average number of login attempts a user needs goes down, which means a more strict rate limiting to an attacker who tries out various common passwords, not slight variations of the same password.

Yes, this would pose a security risk, though it would probably be regarded as a very low risk. It is worth noting that Facebook still implements other password policies such as access to email, security questions, server side authentication mechanisms and other various things. That being said, it does still pose a risk. Often times when software companies store old accounts, and have their password policies continuously updated over time to match current security standards. If the companies are storing accounts that can be used for retrieval at a later date, the old accounts may not be up-to-date with current password policy recommendations. This is surprisingly not too unusual.

The security risk still present is because it would open up a small attack vector that would allow an attacker to access an account faster than they could if policies aforementioned are not factored in. For example, if your password 5 years ago on Facebook was "Password10", and this account came back to life and did not require an update to the account before accessing the content, it would be easier to access an account by means of brute-force and others. As previously stated, the risk is very low compared to modern security policies such as lockouts, etc. Though, some security auditing companies and automated scanners might say that it is a low risk.

I changed my Facebook password and deactivated the Facebook account. The email that was associated with FB was my Facebook email. I have attempted 30-50 times to reset my FB password bu having a code SMS sent to my cell phone and I have not received any code.

Recently I logged into my Facebook account and then noticed that my caps lock was on. So I tried to log in again with and without capslock on. I got in both times. Then I tried to log in with the first letter of my password in uppercase and the rest in lowercase. Again, I got in. How is this even possible? Does Facebook keep a cookie for the password or something?

I don't think there are any cookies per your question. It is likely that the password hashing and storage is as standard as you would expect. The alternate passwords are probably generated from the password submitted, via the login form, and not stored as alternates on the back end.

Once logged into a personal account, you then have the option to create a business page. The management of the business page also happens through your personal account. You must be logged in to your personal account before you can post, edit, or take any other action on your business page.

I am incredibly frustrated right now with the oculus 2 and the whole dang company. My boyfriend and i bought a quest 2 to share and play games on but for some reason after merging his facebook account it keeps saying that his oculus password is wrong and keeping us in a loop of death between logging into facebook and trying to merge the two dumb accounts. There's no way to reset the password because everytime we try it makes us log into his facebook and then the cycle continues. I can log into my facebook and oculus account just fine but we bought the games on his seeing that he was the one who bought the quest in the first place.

Now ontop of that I did a factory reset hoping it would possibly change things but now we cant get into his account still OR any of the games we bought already. I am so upset by this and honestly am half tempted to throw the whole dang thing away at this point.

We have also contacted support but they asked for a bunch of info we can't get since again, we cant even get into the account that has all the buying info and the invoice. Does anyone have any suggestions or is this a lost cause? The ticket number is (4029283)

I have the same problem. i got logged out of my account and tried to log in but forgot my oculus password so i tried facebook but then it just created a new account (on my phone) when i log in on my headset it says that my facebook is linked to another acc but its just the facebook i log in on. its still logged in on my computer where i have an oculus software. I've tried to change my password on oculus but can't because it just keep saying that my acc is merged with facebook so that i need to log in on facebook when i click the link to log in on facebook it just puts on the facebook sit and i dont know what to do after that. So there for my headset is literally useless.

If you have connected your Facebook to your Oculus account before, you'll need to log in using your Facebook account. Our login system can be a bit picky when it comes to how you're logging in with Facebook though, so what we suggest trying is logging out of Facebook on your device completely, logging back into your Facebook using your phone number instead of email, and then try logging back into your Oculus account with Facebook. That should get you in to your account if that's the issue!

I got my Facebook hacked two weeks ago , they changed all my stuff in the morning I saw many emails that wanted my password but it was too late. The hackers gain access to my Facebook and in the morning when I realized everything was gone and the account now is disabled

I'm implementing facebook login with firebase for my application. The objective is to develop a logic that the user can login with email/password provider or facebook provider. As i started developing, i found two ways to do what i want:

User can sign up with facebook and email/password. But firebase won't register the facebook data for the email/password provider. Which means, when i try to get the email from the current user, i have to specify the provider that have the email attribute (facebook provider). Email/password provider returns an empty email

Is there something i'm missing? I tried using updateEmail() when user signs up with facebook but it just updates the email attribute for facebook provider. Do i really have to make the user insert his password to create a link between the two providers?

To have the convenience of user profile information being provided by methods such as firebase.auth().signInWithRedirect() and firebase.auth().linkWithRedirect(), then the Firebase project needs to be configured with One account per email address (Firebase Console > Authentication > Sign-in method). This is the simplest (and default) configuration.

When the Firebase project is configured with One account per email address, then the first time a user attempts to sign-in with a different provider, you will receive the Firebase error auth/account-exists-with-different-credential.

Need to find someone's Facebook password because of an emergency? You may be able to recover it using Facebook's Trusted Contacts feature. This feature allows you to access someone's Facebook password and log into their account. It only works in certain circumstances, which we'll review below. Keep reading to learn how to retrieve someone's Facebook password using their email and the Trusted Contacts feature.

Runescape, as with (almost) every other website that allows you to use Facebook to login, does not have any kind of cross-compatibility capabilities, so in this case once you make an account associated with Facebook, you're stuck with it. Sorry.

If you go to the official Runescape website at www.runescape.com you will see that there is a login button in the top right corner. If you sign in to the website using your facebook created account, the website will prompt you to upgrade to a full account by providing a new email (your username) and a password for the account.

That said, you might not have a strong and unique Facebook password. Maybe a reshuffled spelling of your name is the key to your account. But if it's not strong, there's a chance that someone could be trying to breach your Facebook account. In which case, it's probably time to change your password.

Facebook is once again under the spotlight after admitting to exposing passwords belonging to hundreds of millions of users. It is the latest in a string of security incidents for the social network over the past year and comes as the firm is accused of abusing user data with a US criminal investigation underway.

According to cybersecurity journalist Brian Krebs, the plaintext passwords had been searchable by Facebook employees in some cases since 2012. An anonymous Facebook employee told Krebs that the firm is probing a series of security failures after employees built applications that logged unencrypted password data for Facebook users and stored it in plain text on internal company servers.

Facebook also introduced the ability to register a physical security key to your account, so the next time you log in, you can tap a small hardware device that goes in the USB drive of your computer.

Go to Menu > Settings & Privacy > Settings > Security and login. Under the Where You're Logged In section, you should see a list of devices that are logged into your Facebook account. be457b7860
