I have same problem now. First I had Divx Converter trial version in my computer to do mov->avi conversions, but after trial-period was over I bought Quick Time Pro - divx was available in the iMovie export with QuickTime and I was able to export divx files (with configurable settings). Then I removed the out-dated Divx Converter and Divx Player (came in same package) and then I noticed divx export stopped working. Also directly from Quick Time Pro. I realized that the divx codec was also removed with removal of Divx Converter/player. So I reinstalled the free Divx package (included divx converter, player and divx codec pro 6 month trial) and got divx conversion working in QuickTime Pro, but the export to divx did not reappear into iMovie!

Can you experts help here - is there some library file that needs some update or do I have to reinstall iMovie (I did re-install QuickTime 7) or what would do the trick to make divx export available in the iMovie Quick Time export?

My target is to be able to save the iMovie project directly into divx format. Now I have to first save file into QuicTime format (.mov - which takes a while...) and then convert it again from .mov to .avi (divx) with QuickTime Pro (QuickTime 7). I don't anymore remember for sure how did I manage to create the divx directly from iMovie, but I think it was from Share->QuickTime and then I had divx codec as one option. Now cannot find it anywhere. I hope I expressed myself this time a bit better...

When converting a mp4 to avi. file, the video plays fine in prism, but when playing in windows media player the sound stops halfway through the video. When playing in prism, in the 'other information' field it says 'incorrect timestamps found in the source file. It is recommended to specify the framerate manually for this file.' Have tried changing the framerate but still the same. I have the free trial at the moment, and dont want to buy full version unless i can get it working... any ideas?? Thanks

I can play this mp4 on my computer just fine, action and sound. I tried to convert to AVI and when it is finished, it starts out jerky then stops. I am new and do not understand the converter settings so have left them be as they are which worked with other formats when I got it. Looking through the options I see:

Is there an easy way to convert an AVI file created by the Pro90 (I assume the G2/3 creates the same kind) into a more user friendly format that can be emailed to and viewed by someone who doesn't have the Canon software?

I've just used a program called VirtualDub to convert an S30 movie clip to a DivX format .avi and added some filters to adjust the picture levels and sharpen. Not the most user friendly program - but it does the job and does it well. If you're stuck for initial settings to try, here's what I used:

This produced a 2MB .avi file from a 5MB original. By increasing the Quantizer setting to 16 I could get the file size down to 1MB, but the image quality drop was really noticable. You could perhaps do better using the 2-pass settings.

DivX is a brand of video codec products developed by DivX, LLC. There are three DivX codecs: the original MPEG-4 Part 2 DivX codec, the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC DivX Plus HD codec and the High Efficiency Video Coding DivX HEVC Ultra HD codec. The most recent version of the codec itself is version 6.9.2, which is several years old. New version numbers on the packages now reflect updates to the media player, converter, etc.

DivX 6 expanded the scope of DivX from including just a codec and a player by adding an optional media container format called "DivX Media Format" ("DMF")[13] (with a .divx extension) that includes support for the following DVD-Video and VOB container like features. This media container format is used for the MPEG-4 Part 2 codec.

This new DivX Media Format also came with a "DivX Ultra Certified" profile, and all "Ultra" certified players must support all DivX Media Format features. While video encoded with the DivX codec is an MPEG-4 video stream, the DivX Media Format is analogous to media container formats such as Apple's QuickTime. In much the same way that media formats such as DVD specify MPEG-2 video as a part of their specification, the DivX Media Format specifies MPEG-4-compatible video as a part of its specification. However, despite the use of the ".divx" extension, this format is an extension to the AVI file format. The methods of including multiple audio and even subtitle tracks involve storing the data in RIFF headers and other such AVI hacks which have been known for quite a while, such that even VirtualDubMod supports them. DivX, Inc. did this on purpose to keep at least partial backward compatibility with AVI, so that players that do not support the new features available to the .divx container format (like interactive menus, chapter points and XSUB subtitles) can at least play that primary video stream (usually the main movie if the DMF file contains multiple video streams like special features like bonus materials). Of course, the DivX codec and tools like Dr. DivX still support the traditional method of creating standard AVI files.

DivX has released a command line interface (CLI) for the divx264 encoder used in the DivX Converter as beta, free for non-commercial use.[22] To complement the CLI divx264 encoder released on DivX Labs, DivX has also released a DivX AAC encoder CLI as a Windows beta binary.[22] Finally, DivXMKVMux has been released as a free Windows CLI through DivX Labs with documentation on the DivX Developer Portal; DivX describes the release as a reference mux to demonstrate DivX Plus MKV extensions like World Fonts and Smooth FF/RW.[23]

With introduction of DivX to Go in the DivX Player for Windows, a PlayStation 3 icon is readily available on the interface, which will invoke a transfer wizard for freely converting and copying video files via USB or optical disc.[30] The output from DivX to Go's PlayStation 3 preset is also playable on the Xbox 360.

I am an anime editor. I download videos of anime and edit them with my MacBook Pro. Back when i had windows, it was easy: i just installed the needed .avi codecs ( div/xvid) and i could use the .avi files ( wich the clips of the anime i download is) and i was good to go.

Since i have a macbook pro, i can't edit the clips i want with premiere: I installed all the xvid and divx codecs i could find wich allowed me to play the files in quicktime, and also i can edit them with After Effects. But whenever i try to import files in Premiere, it says: ' Unsupported compression in file.'

So your advise would be to convert the files I have ( wich are .avi ) to another format like .mov ? I already thought about that but since I have a lot of clips of them like 20 seconds each it will take me a long time. Also what I have understand of your reply is that there is always a ' problem ' editing xvid/divx ? Sorry if i might have misread something, like i said before i am not an english-expert

Urgh, looks like i was trying to reach the impossible all this time. Audio is actually no problem because i just put mp3 audio behind the clips i edit. it was actually just the videoclips themselves. And as you just said: whenever I edited on PC with Sony Vegas (xvid/divx) i noticed that frames started to move and other glitch type of things started to show up. Guess i'll need to get my clips in another way.

If you do convert, and use PrPro, I strongly recommend also converting the MP3's to PCM/WAV (Audition, or the free Audacity can easily do this), as MP3's can be highly problematic. I always convert those to PCM/WAV 48KHz 16-bit and have had zero issues with any.

I have a bunch of Avi files that won't play in my WD TV Play box. Mediainfo tells me they are xvid. Specs for the box show that should be fine... but digging through forums says its hit-and-miss. So I'd like to try converting them to h264 encoded MKV or mp4 files. 0852c4b9a8
