On May 14, 2007, Governor Sonny Perdue signed HB 463 into law, which amended the Georgia Erosion and Sediment Control Act of 1975. HB 463 allows certification exams to be administered by the trainers that instruct certification courses. Approved trainers still have the option of hiring a Conservation Commission approved proctor to administer certification exams.

How To Become Certified Proctor

An approved instructor must contact an approved proctor and schedule their services for an examination. The approved instructor will be responsible for paying any expenses related to the proctor and the administration of the exam including postage for the return of the exam package. The approved instructor shall notify the Conservation Commission at least 30 days prior to the examination date. The approved instructor will provide the following information to the Conservation Commission:

As a Registered Proctor for Professional Certification exams, you can provide certification candidates with the opportunity to demonstrate their hard-earned expertise. You establish and schedule exam sessions and register candidates in the sessions you proctor.

The Board is currently accepting applications for proctors for the next administration of the bar examination to be held on September 9-10, 2020. The September 9-10, 2020 bar examination will be administered in Albany, Bronx, Buffalo, Ithaca, Long Island (in both Nassau & Suffolk Counties) Manhattan, Queens, Saratoga Springs, Syracuse and White Plains. Currently, the Board has openings for proctors in all exam locations.

Once you find a job opening for a proctor position, you will need to make sure you meet the qualifications for that particular position and submit an application.

ISA Certification Exam Proctors are trained and pre-approved exam administrators who are responsible for all onsite exam logistics and maintaining exam material security. Well-trained proctors enhance the validity and reliability of the ISA Certification exam and protect the integrity of the program.

A test proctor is an educational professional who oversees the process of students taking an exam or test. They are in charge of checking students into the test hall or classroom, taking attendance, and then detailing the rules of the exam to the students. Test proctors also ensure that the space remains quiet and orderly while students take the test. 

Test proctors also are available for answers to questions or clarifications about specific exams, if the students request this. They also perform time-keeping duties during the test and inform students of the time remaining at critical junctures. By taking a look through resumes, we were able to narrow down the most common skills for a person in this position. We discovered that a lot of resumes listed communication skills, interpersonal skills and business skills.

If you're interested in becoming a test proctor, one of the first things to consider is how much education you need. We've determined that 51.8% of test proctors have a bachelor's degree. In terms of higher education levels, we found that 9.3% of test proctors have master's degrees. Even though most test proctors have a college degree, it's possible to become one with only a high school degree or GED.

The role of a test proctor includes a wide range of responsibilities. The skills section on your resume can be almost as important as the experience section, so you want it to be an accurate portrayal of what you can do. Luckily, we've found all of the skills you'll need so even if you don't have these skills yet, you know what you need to work on. Out of all the resumes we looked through, 19.1% of test proctors listed customer service on their resume, but soft skills such as communication skills and interpersonal skills are important as well.

Some places are better than others when it comes to starting a career as a test proctor. The best states for people in this position are Alaska, Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts. Test proctors make the most in Alaska with an average salary of $56,736. Whereas in Connecticut and New York, they would average $56,425 and $56,328, respectively. While test proctors would only make an average of $49,501 in Massachusetts, you would still make more there than in the rest of the country. We determined these as the best states based on job availability and pay. By finding the median salary, cost of living, and using the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Location Quotient, we narrowed down our list of states to these four.

The job of a proctor is relatively simple yet very important. Particularly for online education where academic integrity and accountability are the biggest concerns. Without proper online monitoring policies, test-takers can easily resort to unfair practices.
