Activating a Viettel eSIM in Vietnam is fast and easy, taking only 5–7 minutes. Travelers simply scan a QR code, complete a quick identity verification, and the device connects immediately upon arrival.
Before starting, ensure:
Your device supports eSIM (e.g., iPhone XR+, Samsung S20+, Google Pixel 2+, Huawei P40+).
Your phone is carrier-unlocked.
You have a stable Wi-Fi connection.
Your passport is available for ID verification.
You have the QR code received after purchasing the eSIM.
Your device software is up to date.
You can activate your tourist eSIM at Viettel counters located in major airports such as Hanoi (HAN), Ho Chi Minh City (SGN), Da Nang (DAD), Phu Quoc (PQC), Cam Ranh (CXR), and others.
These counters are in the Arrivals Hall after Customs, and staff will help with plan selection and activation.
Note: Tourist eSIMs can only be activated after arriving in Vietnam, but airports provide free Wi-Fi for easy setup.
3.1 Identity Registration
Scan the QR code and upload a passport photo and a selfie.
The system verifies your documents and asks for your email.
Review your details and agree to the Personal Data Protection Terms.
Sign the electronic contract.
Once done, your eSIM is officially registered in Viettel’s system.
3.2 Install the eSIM Profile
On iPhone:
Settings → Mobile Data → Add eSIM → Use QR Code → Scan → Add Cellular Plan.
On Android:
Settings → Connections → SIM Card Manager → Add Mobile Plan → Add Using QR Code → Scan → Add.
After installation, test connectivity by opening a website or app.
Registration errors: Re-upload clear photos, correct email format, or complete missing signatures.
QR code scan failure: Ensure device supports eSIM, update software, clean camera, or request a new QR code if the original was already used.
No service: Move to a better signal area, disable Airplane Mode, or restart the device.
Activation failure: Remove old eSIM profiles, check device eSIM limits, or try again later if Viettel’s system is under maintenance.
