The files on your OneDrive are private until you share them. Keep in mind that when you share folders with Edit permissions, people you share with can add the shared folders to their own OneDrive. This lets them keep the folder alongside their own folders and items, easily move items between folders, and more easily work on it offline. Any updates they make sync with the shared folder, so everyone with access to the folder is up to date.

Allow editing lets people who are signed in with a Microsoft Account edit the files or folders they have access to. If you're sharing a folder, people with Edit permissions can copy, move, edit, rename, share, and delete anything in the folder they have access to. Unchecking this box means that people can view, copy, or download your items without signing in. They can also forward the link to other people. However, they cannot make changes to the version on your OneDrive.

In the Name, group or email field, start typing the email addresses or contact names of people you want to share with. When you begin to enter info in the box, you can also choose a contact from the list that appears.

You can copy or move files between folders within OneDrive, or from other folders on your computer. (When you move files from other folders on your computer into a OneDrive folder, you're removing them from your computer and adding them to OneDrive.)

To move a file using Mac Finder, drag files from the file list in the right pane to OneDrive in the left pane (if you have OneDrive listed there under Favorites). After a moment, Finder will switch to show your existing OneDrive files and folders in the right pane, and you can drag the file into the sub-folder of your choice.

In new installations of Windows 10 for many eligible users, files save to OneDrive by default in Windows 10, rather than to your PC. This means you can access those files from any device that can connect to the Internet, and they are protected in case your computer is ever damaged. You can change your default save setting anytime. Learn how to set where your files are saved or move your files to OneDrive.

You can add files and folders to OneDrive automatically from your PC without having to go to the OneDrive website. Files you add to OneDrive this way can be up to 250GB in size. (If you sign in with a work or school account, the maximum file size is 15GB.)

Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings. (If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)

If you have Windows 7, Windows Vista, or a Mac, you can install the free OneDrive desktop app to upload files and folders to OneDrive automatically. Files you upload using the desktop app can be up to 20GB in size.

2- If we assume that the files remain untouched in drive E:\ (since I will format only the windows partition), after reinstalling windows, I want to install OneDrive again on drive E:\ to get the content synced. I have seen that OneDrive gets crazy when you backup old backed up files. I worry if it happens again and OneDrive backup duplicate files and folders and maybe get stuck in a loop. Is it stoppable? Is there any way?

I'm here for an update.

My OneDrive was installed on a separate drive and all of that drive was allocated to OneDrive.

Before re-installing, I unlinked my OneDrive and then after installation I installed OneDrive on the same drive.

Surprisingly, it recognized the old folder, it asked me about using the same folder and I accepted! It checked all the files and folders and at the end, everything was as it was before reinstalling windows, although it took a long time to check the files (but not downloading uploading and duplicating problems)

Thanks for your participation.

First off there is no "uninstall" for windows, I'll assume you're asking about a clean install format partition. I tried once to sync up a folder of the same files to onedrive but in my experience that's not going to work. The simplest method is to just reinstall OneDrive (after windows has been installed) and download the files again to sync. In my case I always have two or three pcs in sync so never a worry about losing the files.

Suddenly started getting error message when going to open files stored on OneDrive. "OneDrive couldn't download [filename] (Error Code: -43). If I right click and choose to open in Microsoft word or excel, I get a different error message: "Additional permissions are required to access the following files." Then it lists the file and tells you to select the item to gain access, but it doesn't actually allow you to select anything. HELP! This is completely new issue. wondering if it's a by-product of a recent update or something.

It sounds like you are having trouble opening files stores in OneDrive and you are seeing an error message when trying to open files saying you do not have permission. Check out this link for Microsoft support when you cannot access files in OneDrive.

Thanks for this. The first link didn't help because it was all about uploading from One Drive and the error messages I'm getting are about downloading. Also, the second link -- I followed the directions, but it didn't appear like I needed to change anything.

I tried to reproduce it with Microsoft Office 2016 and Google Drive, but were unable to do so. The temporary ~$ files were deleted and I only noticed their creation/deletion because Google Drive asked me if these files should have been really deleted. Maybe your Google Drive settings are causing this. But maybe i got the wrong office version.

Also I noted that after installing v1.4.15, v1.4.13 was still in the programs & features list, so Cryptomator was listed twice.

I could uninstall both, so the uninstaller did something twice, but there were still a ton of files in the program folder, which I had to delete manually (to make sure to have a clean installation).

This problem is reported in another thread as well, but i just wanted to mention it here also.

When I noticed it, I stopped OneDrive but now I have a whole bunch of files that end with -copy in their name. I assume OneDrive sync process creates duplicate files that it processes and I suspect it automatically removes them at the end.

Your OneDrive account is added in the left pane under Other file storage. A list of files/folders is displayed. All the actions specific to the selected file type are available in the right context pane.

Search and filter commands are not yet available in the Home view for OneDrive files. Sort is available in the OneDrive file listing. For OneDrive personal, sorting is available on all three headers: name, size, and date, whereas for OneDrive Business, sorting is available only for the name header.

Zwift recommends not syncing any of the Zwift file folder, as it can cause complications with how Zwift reads and writes data, and a common troubleshooting step the provide via their support team is making sure Documents>Zwift is excluded from ANY sync programs, be it OneDrive, DropBox or anything else.

I know this is an old thread, but having the same issues. Pretty annoying that you have to disable syncing and jump through hoops to get this to work correctly. As Steve mentions, the documents folder is not the place for a program to write files to. It would be good if this can be looked into.

If I open it from VBA using the 1drv.ms/... link that it gives to me when I "Share" it, it asks me for a Microsoft login/password that is not my usual Microsoft login. I never found the right password and it's not recoverable.

There are a few different ways to request files from clients, but shared drives are particularly popular among agencies. These allow your clients to upload large files to a designated folder, so you get a centralized hub for all kinds of project documents.

A OneDrive file request is basically a folder in your drive that you give others permission to upload files to. That way, you can store requested files in a single folder, which makes it easier to find and access documents from your clients.

Thanks for that. I have a question. Is it possible for a team to have a shared onedrive account so that any of the team can request a file

the limitation of only one person requesting the files is that if they leave the organisation the requested files are no longer (easily) accessible

Our company (and many others) have moved to Office 365. Now we have people sharing files that reside on OneDrive instead of e-mailing a 'copy'. Microsoft has done a good job of making it hard (impossible?) for there to be version conflicts of Excel, Word, etc. If someone is editing an Excel, or a Word, the changes are saved live so anyone else who is collaborating is always using the most recent view.

JMP Live now comes with the ability to download the data associated with the online report, which to me represents some progress on this. I do still think it encourages version clashes especially if someone works with a version they may have downloaded from Live at some point in the past and forgets to check whether there is a newer version out there... ff782bc1db
