Edit: As some people have commented on this post recently, the "fix" I ended up using was to roll back the driver to the default one (msmouse.inf I believe it's called). If you use the rollback option in device manager, Windows will no longer try to update it to a broken one all the damn time. I'm sure it probably removes a lot of the useful touchpad features my laptop has but at least the pointer is accurate so the basics work. Hope this helps anyone with this problem get at least some functionality out of their touchpad.
