Area Median Income (AMI), also known as Household Area Median Family Income (HAMFI), is the gross income for a family by area and is calculated by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) on an annual basis where 30% AMI is Extremely Low Income, 50% AMI Very Low Income, and 80% AMI is Low Income.
