This organization serves:
Active duty and retired navy and marine members
Family members with military ID cards
Surviving spouses
Reservists on active duty for 30 days or more
Additional Eligibility Requirements
Be on active duty in the USN or USMC
Have enough time left on your contract to repay the interest-free loan
Have no unpaid or outstanding interest-free loans from the Society
Have no disciplinary actions in the past six months (or pending) that impact your pay or rank
Financial need is LESS THAN $500
Tenant has not received 5 QALs or more during his/her career.
Appointment Steps & Documentation
Locate your nearest Society office.
Print and complete an application form (PDF).
Bring completed form to your nearest Society office. Or visit nearest Society office and complete the form in the waiting area.
Bring tenant’s active duty ID card and their most recent Leave and Earnings Statement (LES).
If the tenant’s application is approved, they will walk out with a check.
Be on active duty in the USN or USMC
Have enough time left on your contract to repay the interest-free loan
Have no unpaid or outstanding interest-free loans from the Society
Have no disciplinary actions in the past six months (or pending) that impact your pay or rank
Financial need is LESS THAN $500
Tenant has not received 5 QALs or more during his/her career.
Common situations in which financial assistance is appropriate include:
Food, rent/mortgage, utilities, essential home repairs
Establishing a new residence, including security and utility deposits
Car expenses, such as repairs and insurance deductibles
Medical expenses
Funeral expenses
Make an appointment at your nearest NMCRS office. Often you can be seen the same day. Find a location
Complete the Financial Assistance Application and the Pre-Appointment Information Sheet as accurately as possible.
Bring the following documents to the appointment:
Tenant’s military ID
Most recent leave and earnings statement (LES) or retiree account statement (RAS)
Documents related to tenant’s financial need
A caseworker will review the tenant’s financial situation and guide them through helpful resources and budget planning. If they are approved for a loan or grant, they will get funds right away. There’s no application fee, and the appointment is completely free and confidential.
