If you want a robust, swim-ready audio solution with superior battery life and modern connectivity, choose Hosgubo Earbuds; if you need basic, budget-friendly listening for dry environments like the gym or commute, choose Generic Earbuds.
• Hosgubo Earbuds: The standout strength is its IP7 waterproof rating and Bluetooth 5.4 stability, making it capable of handling submersion and fast connections; however, the larger charging case may feel slightly less pocketable than some competitors. This pick is ideal for active users who prioritize durability and long playtime.
• Generic Earbuds: The key advantage lies in its compact, lightweight design and lower profile, offering a simple setup for casual listeners; the major trade-off is the IPX4 rating, which strictly forbids submersion and limits use to sweat resistance only. This pick fits those who just need reliable sound for everyday, dry activities.
The Hosgubo I66 model is engineered for people who demand performance under pressure. Its most defining feature is the IP7 waterproof rating, a specification that sets it apart from standard consumer earbuds. While many devices can handle a splash or a sweaty workout, an IP7 rating means these earbuds are built to withstand immersion in water up to one meter deep for thirty minutes. This makes them a legitimate contender for swimmers looking for a best headset for swimming experience without needing to buy expensive, specialized hydrophones. If you are training in a pool or simply love running in heavy rain, this level of protection offers peace of mind that generic options simply cannot match.
Beyond water resistance, the internal architecture supports extended usage. With Bluetooth 5.4 technology, the connection is significantly more stable and resistant to interference than older standards. This isn't just about faster pairing; it's about maintaining a clear signal while you move through crowded areas or when your phone is in a different pocket. The audio quality is driven by 13mm dynamic drivers, which provide a fuller soundstage compared to smaller drivers found in entry-level models. Combined with ENC noise reduction, these earbuds ensure your voice comes through clearly during calls even in noisy environments, and they deliver rich musical details for immersive listening sessions.

Battery life is another area where this model excels for the power user. You get 8 hours of continuous playback on a single charge, extending to a massive 45 hours total with the charging case. The LED digital display allows you to see exactly how much power remains in both the buds and the case, eliminating guesswork. Fast charging is also a practical feature here; a quick 10-minute charge provides 2 hours of playback, which is perfect for catching a bus or getting through a short meeting when you forgot to charge overnight. However, potential buyers should note that the inclusion of a large charging case and robust water-proofing might make it slightly bulkier than minimalist alternatives, so if you have very small pockets or prefer the absolute smallest form factor, you might find the size a bit more substantial than necessary.
The Generic T16 model serves a different demographic entirely: the user who prioritizes simplicity and portability over rugged features. These earbuds are designed for the "set it and forget it" lifestyle. They come with a clean, white aesthetic and a compact charging case that measures roughly 2.5 inches in length. The primary appeal here is the straightforward functionality. You get Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, which handles the basics of wireless streaming effectively for phones, tablets, and laptops within a range of up to 15 meters. For someone who listens to podcasts while walking the dog or music while working at a desk, this connection speed and range are more than sufficient.
In terms of audio, the Generic earbuds utilize 6-millimeter dynamic drivers. While smaller than the 13mm drivers in the Hosgubo model, they still offer decent clarity for their class. The touch controls are responsive enough to manage tracks, volume, and calls, and the included six silicone ear tips (in S, M, and L sizes) ensure a secure fit for various ear shapes. The battery life sits comfortably in the 4 to 8 hours per charge range, depending on your volume settings. This is adequate for a workday or a long flight, though it requires more frequent recharging than the Hosgubo option. The charging case itself holds enough power to extend your listening time significantly, but it lacks the rapid-charging capability found in higher-end models.
However, the critical limitation of the Generic T16 is its environmental protection rating. It carries an IPX4 rating, which protects against sweat and light splashes. The manufacturer explicitly states not to wash or submerge them. This disqualifies them immediately for anyone considering them as kids headphones for swimming or for serious aquatic sports. The charging case is also not water-resistant and must stay dry. If your routine involves intense sweating, accidental drops in puddles, or any interaction with water beyond a light drizzle, these earbuds will likely fail prematurely. They are excellent for the office, the gym, or the morning jog on a dry day, but they lack the versatility needed for wet conditions.
• Best for water sports and swimming → Hosgubo Earbuds, thanks to the IP7 rating that allows full submersion.
• Best for battery longevity → Hosgubo Earbuds, offering 8 hours per charge and a total of 45 hours with the case.
• Best for ultra-lightweight portability → Generic Earbuds, with a smaller case and lighter overall footprint.
• Best for call clarity in noise → Hosgubo Earbuds, featuring advanced ENC and CVC algorithms alongside larger drivers.
• Best for basic daily commuting → Generic Earbuds, providing solid Bluetooth 5.3 performance without unnecessary bulk.
• Best for quick top-ups → Hosgubo Earbuds, with a 10-minute charge yielding 2 hours of playback.
• Best for minimalists → Generic Earbuds, if you don't need advanced noise cancellation or water resistance.
• Best for durability in harsh weather → Hosgubo Earbuds, built to resist heavy rain and accidental immersion.
After weighing the specifications and real-world application scenarios, I recommend the Hosgubo Earbuds for almost everyone seeking a versatile pair of wireless headphones. The IP7 waterproof rating is a game-changer that opens up usage possibilities, including swimming, that the Generic model simply cannot support. In my opinion, the combination of Bluetooth 5.4 stability, superior battery life, and the ability to survive submersion makes the Hosgubo a far more future-proof investment. While the Generic earbuds are a decent choice for dry, casual use, the added cost of replacement due to water damage or the limited utility of the IPX4 rating makes them a weaker value proposition. If you are looking for a best headset for swimming or just want earbuds that won't quit when it rains, the Hosgubo is the clear winner.
Only the Hosgubo Earbuds are rated IP7, meaning they can be submerged in water up to one meter deep. The Generic Earbuds are only IPX4 rated and should never be washed or submerged.
The Hosgubo Earbuds offer significantly longer endurance with 8 hours per charge and a total of 45 hours with the case, whereas the Generic Earbuds provide 4 to 8 hours per charge depending on usage.
With the Hosgubo Earbuds, you do not need to worry about sweat or heavy rain due to the IP7 rating. With the Generic Earbuds, you must keep them away from liquids other than light splashes to avoid damage.
The Hosgubo Earbuds utilize the newer Bluetooth 5.4 standard, offering faster pairing, better stability, and lower latency compared to the Bluetooth 5.3 found in the Generic Earbuds.
