If you want a versatile, all-in-one removal kit for a wide range of filter sizes and tight engine bays, choose HORUSDY 5-Piece; if you need a dedicated, low-profile socket specifically engineered for high-torque removal on European and VAG group vehicles, choose SuyangXyx Oil Filter Cap.
• HORUSDY 5-Piece: Its biggest strength is the comprehensive versatility of five distinct tools (four wrenches plus pliers) that cover almost every filter diameter from 2.75 to 5.25 inches, making it ideal for mixed fleets or unknown filter types; its trade-off is the sheer bulk of carrying a 5-pound kit with a large storage case.
• The HORUSDY set is the pick for van lifers who travel in different vehicles or encounter various maintenance needs without knowing exactly what they will face next.
• The SuyangXyx tool is the pick for the dedicated mechanic who owns a specific European vehicle and needs a compact solution for quick, high-torque swaps.
The HORUSDY 5-Piece Standard Swivel Oil Filter Wrench set is designed for the person who refuses to be caught without the right tool for the job. This kit includes four distinct band-style wrenches covering a massive range of diameters, starting from a mini size of 2-3/4 inches up to a large size of 5-1/4 inches. You also get a pair of 12-inch adjustable pliers that can handle filters between 2-3/4 and 4-1/2 inches. This breadth of coverage means you are not limited by the specific make or model of your vehicle. Whether you are working on a small compact car, a mid-size SUV, or a heavy-duty truck, this set likely has a tool that fits the filter snugly.
What stands out most about this design is the focus on ergonomics and safety in difficult positions. The manufacturer explicitly notes the use of an ergonomic non-slip grip. In the context of van life, where you might be working under a hood that offers very little room to maneuver, having a handle that does not slip when you apply force is critical. The adjustable nature of the pliers allows for extra stretch and leverage in narrow areas, which is often the difference between getting the filter off cleanly and damaging the surrounding components. The ability to swivel the wrench further aids in breaking loose stubborn filters without needing excessive space to swing a ratchet.
However, this power comes with a physical cost. While the case makes organizing the tools easy, the total volume and weight mean this is not a pocket-sized solution. It belongs in a dedicated toolbox or a storage bin in the back of a work van rather than a glove box. If you are looking for something to keep in your emergency kit alongside jumper cables and tire repair fluid, this set might take up too much valuable real estate. But if you are setting up a permanent garage station or have a large cargo area in your vehicle, the trade-off for having every possible size available is worth it.
This product is best for the owner-operator who maintains multiple vehicles or drives a van that sees a variety of road conditions and mechanical demands. It is also the ideal choice for anyone who wants a single purchase that solves oil changes for years to come without needing to hunt down specialized adapters. If you value having a complete arsenal ready to go, regardless of the filter size or brand, this is the logical foundation for your maintenance toolkit.

The SuyangXyx Oil Filter Cap is not a general-purpose tool; it is a precision instrument built for a very specific niche. These are not universal band wrenches that wrap around the outside; they are deep sockets that engage directly with the splines on the filter housing. This design is engineered specifically for the OEM standards of major manufacturers like Ford, Peugeot, Renault, VAG (Volkswagen Group), Citroen, and Mercedes.
The defining feature of the SuyangXyx design is its low-profile structure. Many modern engines are packed so tightly that there is no room for a bulky ratchet or a long-handled wrench. A standard oil filter wrench might simply not fit in the gap between the filter housing and other engine components. This low-profile socket is slim enough to slide into those tight, confined spaces where larger tools fail. This specification indicates that the material and construction are robust enough to handle the high resistance of a stuck filter without stripping the fastener or breaking the tool itself. It protects the filter housing from damage during removal, which is a common issue with cheaper, generic tools that crush the plastic casing.
If you try to use it on a generic round filter or a filter with a different spline count, it will not fit. It is a single-purpose tool that excels only within its intended scope. The packaging is minimal, measuring just 2.5 x 2.5 x 1.5 inches, making it incredibly portable. You could easily stash it in a side pocket of a backpack or a small compartment in a van console without taking up any meaningful space. It is the ultimate "just in case" item for a driver who knows their car requires this specific type of maintenance and wants to be prepared without lugging around a heavy case.
This product is perfect for the owner of a European vehicle who values efficiency and precision over versatility. It is also excellent for the van life enthusiast who has already done their research on their specific vehicle's requirements and wants a lightweight, reliable backup plan. If you know you are dealing with a Ford, Mercedes, or VW filter housing, this tool eliminates the guesswork and frustration of trying to force a universal wrench into a space that was never meant for it.
• Best for Versatility → HORUSDY 5-Piece: With four wrench sizes and adjustable pliers, this set covers a diameter range from 2.75 to 5.25 inches, handling everything from small economy cars to large trucks.
• Best for Specific Engine Clearance → SuyangXyx Oil Filter Cap: Its low-profile design is superior for tight engine bays where a standard wrench body would physically block access to the filter housing.
• Best for High Torque on Stubborn Filters → SuyangXyx Oil Filter Cap: Rated for 115Nm, this socket is engineered to handle the specific high-torque requirements of European filter housings without slipping or crushing.
• Best for Multi-Vehicle Owners → HORUSDY 5-Piece: If you switch between different cars or drive a fleet of vans with varying filter sizes, the HORUSDY kit ensures you always have the right tool on hand.
• Best for Portability and Storage → SuyangXyx Oil Filter Cap: At less than 3 inches per unit, these sockets take up negligible space compared to the 16-inch length and 5-pound weight of the HORUSDY case.
• Best for Non-Damaging Removal on Plastic Housings → SuyangXyx Oil Filter Cap: The 12-flute engagement matches the OEM standard precisely, reducing the risk of rounding off the filter cap compared to a band wrench that relies on friction.
• Best for a Complete Starter Kit → HORUSDY 5-Piece: The inclusion of a carrying case and multiple tools makes this a turnkey solution for someone building a new maintenance setup from scratch.
• Best for Dedicated European Vehicle Maintenance → SuyangXyx Oil Filter Cap: If your vehicle is a Ford, Peugeot, Renault, VAG, Citroen, or Mercedes, this tool is the exact match for the factory specifications.
In my opinion, I would buy the HORUSDY 5-Piece set if I were equipping a van for full-time living. The unpredictability of life on the road means I might find myself in a rental car, a friend's truck, or my own vehicle, and the HORUSDY kit gives me the confidence to handle any filter size I encounter. The ability to adapt to different diameters outweighs the bulk of the carrying case. However, if I were strictly maintaining my own European-spec van, I would add the SuyangXyx Oil Filter Cap to my bag for its speed and precision in tight spaces. For a primary recommendation that balances utility and peace of mind for the average van lifer, the comprehensive nature of the HORUSDY set is the smarter investment.
