PRIVACY POLICY - HORDES UI MOD
Last Updated: October 2026
1. INTRODUCTION & CORE PRIVACY COMMITMENT
Hordes UI Mod ("the Extension") is an open, client-side browser extension designed to enhance the graphical user interface and gameplay experience of the Hordes.io web-based MMORPG.
Your privacy is our utmost priority. The Extension operates entirely within your local browser environment. We do NOT collect, transmit, store, sell, or share any personal data, account credentials, gameplay history, or browser activity with any external servers or third parties.
2. WHAT PERMISSIONS ARE REQUESTED AND WHY?
The Extension requests only two specific permissions in its manifest:
A. "storage" Permission
• Why it is needed:
The Extension provides customizable features such as draggable window layouts, custom chat channel tabs, a toggleable list of active mods, locked inventory slots, and friend list notes. The "storage" API (specifically chrome.storage.local) is used exclusively to persist these visual and functional user preferences across browser sessions on your local device.
• What data is stored:
Only local configuration objects (such as window X/Y coordinates, list of enabled/disabled mod features, and chat tab preferences). No personal identification data is ever recorded.
B. Host Permissions: "https://hordes.io/*" and "https://*.hordes.io/*"
• Why it is needed:
The Extension is designed solely to enhance the Hordes.io MMORPG. This permission grants Chrome the ability to inject the necessary user script (content.js) and styling rules (styles.css) into Hordes.io web pages so that you can interact with draggable windows, resizable minimaps, and custom chat tabs inside the game.
• What it does NOT do:
The Extension cannot and does not access any other website or domain on your computer. Its scope is restricted 100% to hordes.io.
3. ARE ALL THESE PERMISSIONS DEFINITELY NECESSARY?
(Principle of Least Privilege Assessment)
YES. The Extension adheres strictly to the Principle of Least Privilege:
• No Broad Host Permissions:
Many extensions request broad access like "<all_urls>", which grants access to every website you visit. Hordes UI Mod explicitly rejects this approach and restricts its host permission strictly to "https://hordes.io/*".
• No Sensitive or Unnecessary APIs:
We do NOT request sensitive APIs such as "cookies", "webRequest", "identity", "history", "tabs", or "management".
• Why "storage" cannot be omitted:
Without the "storage" permission, your custom window coordinates, minimap zoom level, locked bag slots, and enabled mod toggles would reset to factory defaults every time you reload the game or switch characters. Storing this state locally is vital for a seamless user experience.
• Why "host permissions" cannot be omitted:
In Manifest V3, Chrome requires explicit host declarations to inject CSS and JavaScript into any web application. Without access to hordes.io, the extension would have no technical capability to customize the game UI.
4. DATA TRANSMISSION & TELEMETRY
• No External Network Requests:
Hordes UI Mod does not contain analytics packages (such as Google Analytics or Mixpanel), telemetry beacons, or remote tracking scripts.
• No Remote Code Execution:
All code executed by the Extension is bundled locally within the extension package itself, ensuring complete compliance with Chrome Web Store security regulations.
5. USER CONTROL & DELETION OF DATA
You have complete control over your data at all times:
• You can reset all saved UI coordinates and preferences at any time by clicking the "Reset UI" button in the extension popup.
• Uninstalling the Extension instantly removes all locally stored preferences from your browser.
6. CONTACT & INQUIRIES
If you have any questions regarding this Privacy Policy or the security of Hordes UI Mod, please contact the development team through the official Chrome Web Store support page or project repository.
