The Homeownership and Opportunity for Everyone (HOPE) program, is a US federal aid program from the HUD that helps people buy public housing units by funding non-profits, resident groups, and other eligible entities that develop and implement homeownership programs.
Since homeownership is key to ensuring self-sufficiency for low-income families, HOPE I and other HUD programs are working to make homeownership possible for thousands of low-income families that are currently living in public housing.
The HHA or Houston Homebuyer Assistance is administered by The City of Houston Housing and Community Development Department. Applicants who are qualified may get funding assistance for closing costs, down payment and prepaid assistance merged with education and counseling about the process of home buying.
Those who apply and are accepted for the HOPE program must agree to an equity sharing program. Equity is the difference between the amount of your original loan and the actual value of the home; if you sell or refinance your home after entering the HOPE program, under the terms of HOPE you are required to share any equity with the FHA. How much the government receives depends on how long you wait to sell or refinance. If you sell in the first year of your participation in HOPE, the government receives 100% of the equity. The 30-year loan is extendable in some situations. Extending the terms to 40 years is helpful in cases where the homeowner has a large amount of debt; the 40-year term reduces mortgage payments further. There are requirements and restrictions on these extended loans. Check with your lender to see if you qualify for the 40-year loan terms under the HOPE program.

The city's Curbside Appeal Reimbursement Program encourages homeowners to make improvements to the exterior of their homes and garages in areas that are visible from the street. The city will reimburse a portion of the costs for projects that meet eligibility requirements. All projects must be pre-approved by city staff. There are no income limits to participate in the program. Reimbursement amounts range from a minimum of $1,000 to a maximum of $5,000. Applicants are responsible for 75% of project costs up to $20,000 and 100% of costs beyond $20,000.
Membership to HHOC, normally $60, includes homebuyer education classes. Upon completion of the classes, a certificate is issued that is often required for various home loan programs. Other services that come with the HHOC lifetime membership include unlimited homeownership coaching and post-purchase services. One Door When facing a housing crisis, understanding and navigating the systems of services can be confusing and overwhelming. One Door assists in maneuvering through those crucial systems by providing a central point of entry for coordinated intake, assessment and referrals for housing and shelter services. One Door is also home to a growing Shelter Diversion program, which has worked to divert more than 80 adults and 90 children from the shelter system as of January 2017. One Door serves those who are homeless or at immediate risk of homelessness throughout Greene, Christian and Webster counties.
Southern Nevadahomebuyers in eligible zip codes can now take advantage of a down paymentassistance program that provides a forgivable loan of 10 percent of the purchaseprice, up to $20,000, toward the purchase of a home. The HopeBrings You Home program is available to homebuyers in areas that are stillconsidered distressed from the housing crisis.
The first-come, first-servedprogram will be offered until its $36 million allocation has beendistributed. A minimum of 1,800qualified homebuyers will receive down payment and closing cost assistance. Onceapproved, the financial assistance comes in the form of a second mortgage witha zero percent interest rate and no monthly payments for a 3-year term. Theloan is forgiven at the end of the 3-year term.
To qualify for theprogram, a homebuyer must purchase the home to occupy as their primaryresidence, complete a required homebuyer education course, and meet certainincome, debt and credit score requirements.
