In French, the interjection houp-l is used roughly the same way as English's upsy-daisy or whoops-a-daisy, as one might say when picking up a child. (This usage can be found in English, too, in such works as Booth Tarkington's The Magnificent Ambersons and James Joyce's Ulysses.) When the word was borrowed into American English, however, it was to refer to a kind of bustling commotion, and later, as a term for sensationalist hype. In the early 20th century, another hoopla was in use as well. Playing on the syllable hoop, that word gave its name to a ring-toss game played at carnivals.
Cara-Beth Burnside & I created hoopla skateboards w/ the mission to encourage girl's participation & progression in skateboarding at a time when very few brands supported the female skate scene. Looking back at the last 11 years, I feel very proud and fulfilled with all that we were able to accomplish.

After riding Powell decks for many years, I was given the opportunity by Michael Furukawa at Skate One Corp. to create my own board brand. This was an honor but I needed a co-pilot for this mission to happen. I asked Mimi Knoop if she would join forces with me and this was the beginning of an all girls skate brand that we called hoopla skateboards.
The skateboarding industry has changed so much in the last few years. Female skaters now get the support they need from bigger companies. I know hoopla helped pave the way for this to happen. It was so rewarding and surreal to have had such a rad team of girls represent hoopla over the years. I am stoked to have formed friendships with such a diverse and talented group.
It has been our great pleasure to work with Cara-Beth Burnside and Mimi Knoop to introduce many girls to skating, encourage those who were devoted to it, and help craft careers for hoopla's amazing and wonderful team. We are proud of what we did together to further women's skating. The hoopla team was filled with amazing skaters, each a star and inspiration.

Media items borrowed from hoopla return automatically after two or three days for video, seven days for music, and three weeks for eBooks, eComics, and eAudiobooks.
All items return automatically, so there are never any late fees.
You can have separate hoopla accounts for each of the library cards in your family. Each account must have a unique email address associated with it. If you have a library card with another library system that also offers hoopla, you can create another account with that library system, but you will also need a unique email address for such an account.
The hoopla streaming media service provides eBooks and eAudiobooks (as well as streaming movies, TV episodes, music albums and eComics) which are ALWAYS available. OverDrive offers eBooks and eAudiobooks which are licensed for use by one borrower at a time.
With hoopla, all media can be streamed without downloading as long as you have an internet connection. If you would like to use your borrow on your mobile device while in airplane mode, you can first download the item to the hoopla app by clicking on the title and then clicking on "Download to your device."

You can check out any combination of movies, eBooks, audiobooks, comics, and music, but when you have checked out 8 items you are done for the month. You will get 8 more checkouts on the first of each month. You can borrow titles though the hoopla digital mobile app or website by browsing all available content. Once you select a title you can click on the Borrow button on the title details page. Once a title is borrowed, it will be added to your My Titles menu. From there, you can play or view the title on your mobile device or PC/Mac.
Ebooks, comics, and audiobooks may be checked out for 21 days. Music albums are available for 7 days. Movies and television shows may be checked out for 3 days. The titles will automatically expire - you do not need to return them.
You can browse through all the titles in the collection, or search just the music, or movies, or TV shows, or comics, or eBooks, or audiobooks. Search by artist, author, narrator, illustrator, or title, or browse by genre, or featured and most popular titles.
