The Honours Project
Capstone Project
From July 2022 to June 2023 I worked with – 3 embedded and 3 startup – students.
In my supervision of honours students, I support students to be embedded inside companies or to imagine their own startup.
My Pedagogy for Honours is captured in a phrase that I get students to consider: "I am the Project".
I am keen; to support the startup focussed honours, especially to focus upon a team-based approach
Where I supervise teams of students.
3 is a good number - to make - (just like MF6M?)
Each student has a role and a responsibility to deliver on:
The whole project: The Chief Executive Officer, CEO
The technical bits: The Chief Technical Officer, CTO
The design bits: The Chief Design Officer, CDO
I am keen to support students - that wish to collaborate to imagine a startup.
Mentorship
I will organise for Mentorship, through sessions with individuals who have started their own ventures, design ventures.
What is a Capstone Project?
In this podcast episode, I speak about my background, my experience of Capstone Projects - https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/learner-centered-design-education/id1588403566?i=1000541951979
The Program I do with students
Part 1: The outcome of this stage of the Capstone Project is the book.
The topic:
What is worth doing for you:
Where do you want to be in 5 years?
How is the Capstone aligned to your next stage of life?
Whats is your passion, what is a project that will keep you switched on?
The Book
The layout in Indesign
Hardcopy Book Prototype
All the text written.
Supervisor Approach: Things I say to students.
I am not that interested in your topic, but I am interested in what you become.
I will not assess you, but I will help you realise a great project.
What I say to my honours students: I will be a great 'Delta Goodrem', you have to be a great contestant.
Part 2: The outcome of this stage of the Capstone Project is the Prototype.
Things you will do in this stage.
Direct models and prototypes.
CAD.
Improved Prototypes.
Update book text, add pictures.
Time can be short in this stage
The Industry Embedded practices; do not contain user work (interviews or testing).
I see Capstone work as Propositional.
Note: Future commercialisation (if it comes to that) can start with user testing.
